Can anyone recommend a moderately upscale restaurant (preferrably Thai) for a dinner date? I'm going to be in BKK for the first time in a few weeks and I'm hoping to set up a dinner date or two with some independents I've been chatting with on Smooci. Something quiet, intimate, but not too crazy expensive would be great. I'll be staying at the Westin Grande, so somewhere not too far from there would also be preferred.

With every good review you have the negative review. And mine is the negative review. The other half (Thai) and I went there last year. Not busy. But the service was terrible and the food was worse. This is not just the farangs' opinion but the other half felt the same. She was the one that spoke up to the manager as we left. Maybe an off day? But off day enough that we would not be going back.

I really like Cabbages and Condoms but the motif may not be appropriate for an upscale dinner. I would recommend Long Table. It is very close to Sukhomvit and Asok (a couple blocks down Asok from Suk). It have very nice food, a great view and is definitely upscale. It is the kind of place I would take a person that is good at conversation and would be comfortable in an upscale place since it is pretty open and not private booths.

Depending on the dates preferences there is a nice Brazillian steak house (with an all you can eat option) around Soi 27 or 29, right on the corner of the soi and Sukhomvit. It is a nice place but you have to love meat to get the most out of it.

Interesting back and forth recently about social media for hook ups. I've been using several apps for a few weeks to test the waters. Namely Tagged, wechat, line, zalo, tinder. Degrees of interest. Tagged and tinder being free to message and take things from there, also wechat on the vicinity search (which I used in BKK before for a FL). I registered on Thai Cupid out of curiosity from its mention here in earlier threads. I got lots of interest and messages (some LBs included). The problem with this app being you can't read messages with paying a sub. I could be tempted if the hit rate were to be higher than the other free methods.

I did not tell her it was a dive bar. It is just an open bar with outdoor tables facing the Soi and some seating inside. In fact, I think that I have spotted a few escorts types in this bar either before or after the deed. I doubt she was familiar with the bar in any event. There are other restaurant with bars nearby but a bit more upscale and sometimes tough to find a seat. I really think if I said to meet at a coffee place, her reaction would have been even worse.

Or she didn't like the offer of a dive bar as sufficiently neutral. I'the offer a coffee shop or something similarly bland.

Eihtooms mentioned that he has tried screening girls he meets through tinder and other dating sites at a local bar rather than have that first potentially awkward meeting in your hotel lobby or apartment foyer. I thought that seemed a reasonably good idea so when I finally did make a connection in Tinder, I exchanged several correspondences with the girl about price, meeting location, and what I expected from our date. Once we sorted out the details, I asked her to meet me at a local dive bar at the beginning of my Soi and noted that it was just a short few minute walk to my apartment from there.

She quickly questioned 'why we need to meet at bar'. This set off a few red lights for me and I promptly cancelled our 'date'. In her photos she appeared reasonably attractive and cute but no beauty queen either. But as a blog site noted about escort services in Bangkok, your not generally going to find a playboy model willing to go to a strangers apartment at x o'clock in the early morning hours. I actually thought that I saved myself some trouble by cancelling then and there. If she won't meet at a neutral location, it suggests that she does not resemble her photos or, even worse, that by meeting somewhere other than your accommodations it cuts into her valuable work time (I. E. It's prob going to be a rush job).

Not necessarily. Depends on you, her, and your ability to negotiate.

I often get short time at Nana Plaza for bar fine + 1500.

Three memorable days in Bangkok, after a gap of nearly 5 years. Bangkok is no longer cheap. Short time take away from Nana Plaza was 1000 + 3000 = 4,000 Baht. Plenty of doable young pretty slim girls in Butterfly. Service was pretty good too from Kik (402) and Om (235).

Kiss at Doki Doki was worth visiting twice. They show the line up, if requested.

Excellent regular massage at Asia Herb, close to Nana Plaza.

Excellent diner at Prai Raya.

Would love to get back soon.

Also on Soi 8 is Kinnaree, not to be confused with the restaurant of the same name on the other side of Sukhumvit on Soi 11. The one on Soi 8 is moderately upscale, quiet, much nicer. You walk down a short driveway next to Det-5 restaurant.

I find Prai Raya to be quite loud and difficult to chat in. Unless you sit outside. With all the hard surfaces in the restaurant, hard floors, hard wood tables, mostly bare walls and their strange choice of tables where you sit rather far from your date (presumably to accommodate several platters of food), I find the place really loud with everyone raising their voice to be heard, echos all around and so on. Seriously, when the place is full you can barely hear what the person sitting across from you at a simple table for 2 is saying.

Attractive Thai restaurant though.

Beware, at Cabbages and Condoms there is a big banner near the entrance to the main dining room of stick figures illustrating the Dos and Don't's of various sexual activities for the sake of "safety" based on outdated, scientifically dubious notions of yesteryear. Like, for example, a BBBJ+CIM and DATY is ok but don't you or your date dare swallow what comes out as a result.

Personally, I would never take a date, paid or free, to that restaurant.

Thanks, and you're probably right about it not being worth it. Not sure I'll go that route; maybe just meet for a drink in the hotel bar instead. We'll see. I do enjoy a little bit of "out of the sack" time to get warmed up, but I guess that really depends on the girl and if she's into it.

If there's an upscale place in BKK that you really want to eat at, it's worth taking a woman out. But never any gains otherwise. Getting some drinks and snack at the local bars would do just as good if not better because now you can build chemistry or cut bait.
