The link below is Charm City Dave's link in the Google Fi "refer a friend" program. He gets a $20 credit for each new subscriber that signs up through it. I used to juggle sim cards when I traveled. I tried T-Mobile and Sprint internationally and hated the slow speeds and awful customer service.

If you spend any significant amount of time outside the US, and are from the US, I think Google Fi is a no-brainer for mobile phone service. It's cheap, reliable and has excellent customer service. It leverages both the Sprint and T-Mobile international networks seamlessly connecting to the strongest. When I was in Peru and T-Mobile's network was down it auto-connected to Sprint. When I was in New Zealand which had no Sprint partner it worked great with T-Mobile. I get LTE speed over 95% of the time. When connected to Wifi calls home are free. Otherwise 20 cents a minute. Free SMS worldwide. Pay for the mobile data you use. My monthly bills average less than $30 a month. Only downside is that it works best with the phones they sell, though it is now compatible with other phones (see their site). I'm a Pixel fan boy, think they are better than iPhones and now they have the mid-range priced 3 a series. I have used it in 14 countries (including Colombia).

I have stayed there 4 times for almost a month, I just hide my passport in the room but you can have the front desk put it in their safe but get it back on a week day a day or 2 early before you leave in case the office is closed when you leave. Money I just get what I need from the ATM every day, keep some in my pocket and most plus credit card and copy of passport in money belt under my clothes.

I'm newbie to Colombia and don't speak any Spanish, but have a lot of experience navigating through DR and other countries (rough places. Not Blackbeards) - I'm going to be extra careful, don't walk after dawn. Only taxi and Uber. You still don't recommend El Centro?

It's sad how bad the air gets contaminated here in town. Especially when there are no windy days and / or rain to cleanse the air in the Valley.

You don't really realize how bad it is until you leave town. I went to Guatape for the weekend and you could see for miles in the crisp crystal clear air in the mountains.

Upon returning to town, you could see the smog sitting in the valley and the air smelled bad. I remember back in the Spring the air contamination was so bad that one week all of the public "Undiad Deportivas" sport complexes were closed for almost a week. It's even gotten so bad in the past they have even banned cars besides Pico and Placa and let everyone ride the METRO for free.

The majority of the air pollution comes from all of the vehicles. They require annual smog checks for all the vehicles here. However, their emission allowances are not as strict as many locales in the USA. They have a higher sulfer content in the gasoline here. So they are saving money by not having to refine the gasoline as much. They could help alleviate the problem by refining the gasoline more but it would increase the cost of gasoline substantially.

Additionally, the City has been putting in dedicated bike lanes all over the City to help go green. However, by doing so they have also taken away car lanes and as a result travel time by car and congestion has increased substantially in the areas with the dedicated bike lanes.

Arrived Saturday and the tunnel on the airport route is open. About 40 minutes to Laureles. Taxis add the 18,000 toll making the fare 80 k, even though they probably save a couple litres of petrol.

Thanks for the information. I think the taxis raised their rates to 80 mil at least a couple months ago.

I've read all the tips and advice on here but it's still a pretty intimidating new world to dive into alone. But for my first attempt, it sounds like I'm better off trying the clubs or Facebook. Can someone explain how it works on Facebook? How do I even start a search for girls in Medellin on Facebook?

Or better yet, if anyone else is also going to be in the area. I'the love to meet up and learn from a more experienced member in person. Drinks on me.

Here's the easy way:

Go to Facebook. Search for "happy ending Medellin." Go to the first profile that pops up. Go to the friend list. There are at least 28 working girls on the friend list, but it's probably closer to 50. There are also a large number of gringo mongers on the list.

Look at each girl's Facebook. If she looks good, add her as a friend. Repeat until you've sent a friend request to all of them. In a few hours you should start getting responses. Some will respond in a few hours, some in a few weeks, some never.

While you're waiting, start looking at each girl's friend list, if you can see it. Check out her friends. Many of them may be available. Add the best prospects. You can carry this as deep as you want. I've found girls that were 5 levels deep. You can do the same with all the gringo mongers. If you can see their friends, add the girls.

Some girls will message you immediately. These ones are hit and miss. Many will realize you're new and try to get a higher price. When you're a week away from landing start sending messages to your new friends. Keep it simple, especially if you're using Google translate. Don't rush to the goal. Most will pretty quickly tell you "quiero verte", I want to see you.

Don't try to set up a time until you're on the ground and settled in. Remember, traffic is bad and most live 30-60 minutes away. Also keep in mind that they need to get ready, and many need to find a babysitter.

Things to watch out for:

Any woman who quotes prices in dollars. Just tell her "Dale. Cuando estás en mi ciudad, the pagaré en dolares." Okay. When you're in my city I will pay you with dollars.

Any woman that immediately starts laying down the rules. Most will insist on a condom for sex. If they insist on condom for oral, either accept it, or pass. Don't offer more money. There are plenty who will be fine with chupa sin condon.

Any woman who claims to have lost her cedula. There's a good chance she doesn't have one because she's not 18 yet.

Any woman who starts at higher than 300 k. I always answer with "siempre pago ciento cincuenta mil, mas veinte mil para taxi. " I always pay 150 k, plus 20 k for taxi. You can bump to 200 k (dos cientos mil) if you want.

Some guys insist you should clarify everything you want before. If you need anything out of the ordinary, that's a good idea. Personally, I don't bother. Nothing on my list is ever an issue. I also don't specify a time limit. If you tell her 1 hour, she'll expect more if she spends 2 hours. However, most are fine with spending 2 or 3 hours.

Don't pay in advance. Don't leave the girl unattended, unless she's in the bathroom. Don't let her mix drinks or make food for you.

if you are a young white American male you really don't even need to monger especially if you know a little Spanish.

Young guys will more naturally blend into social scenes, clubs, etc. with young regular chics. If your Spanish is on point, you can skip mongering even if you are older and pick up regular Colombian chics as well.

For some of the newbies. I go to Medellin and Cartagena every few months. I have a set program that works "for me" I figured I would share. A lot of other seasoned mongers will hate my program. First post for me here. I was just going to say thanks for the info mate. I am currently living in Udon Thani Thailand but going to visiting Colombia to see if I might move there (been in Thailand for 10 years now sort of looking for something new).

Anyway, what you wrote is pretty much exactly the same I do when I fly down to Pattaya for a few days. The only difference is I am a 36 year old 6'4 German LOL.

But I like to do the disco tours and a bit of partying as well with maybe some facebook action during the day as well. I can relate to kicking yourself for passing on a hotty just to come back later and she is gone or has a guy already.

That seems to happen regularly but I never learn hahaha.
