Dropped by Manhattan at 10.00 pm last Sunday.

Have not visited Shanghai in about a decade, so I've zero reference point to comment on it's trajectory. But the place was about 70% full, so not bad for a Sunday.

The most interesting change was that the best talent only wanted to go with Japanese, Korean and North Asian men generally. The extent of this surprised me. In hindsight, it probably should not have. It went down like this.

Walked through the door. Usual set up. Women around the fringes. Best towards the front, worst towards the back where lighting is darkest.

Surprise No. 1: Most of the tables accommodated 2-3 men, drinking and shooting shit. Out of about 20 tables of men, maybe only 3 or 4 of them had attracted women to sit or stand with them. I began to wonder why.

Surprise No. 2: Immediately grabbed a drink at the bar and began a walk around the edges, assessing prospects. Standard was good enough. Lots of 6-7's and a surprisingly good number of 7-8's. Thought I even caught a glimpse of a few 8-9's. Of course these ratings might go down a notch if viewing at the beach, but in the dim light of M, they were better than I anticipated. We all have different classifications, but if you dial-up or down my scores by 1, you'll be about right. I began to think tonight would be a success.

An interesting custom in China is that women keep their name after marriage. So anytime a man and woman check into a hotel they will usually have different family names. When I was in Shanghai in July I was staying at the Fairmont Peace hotel on the Bund, because I had promised my Chinese lady friend we would stay there. Many 5 star hotels have restaurants on the 2nd, 3rd, and / or 4th floors. You don't need a key card to access those floors, so you can meet the girl on those floors if you are ordering outcall. If you are walking in with a girl, then as someone else mentioned, try to do it as early as possible, like before 10 pm or 11 pm. Otherwise, it will may appear obvious that you are bringing a WG into your room at 2 am. But even if you do bring a girl into the hotel at 2 am and security asks you to register the girl, then just register the girl. Yeah, pretty much every 5 star hotel has security on duty. But the hotel really doesn't care that you have a WG in your room. They only care about protecting you, since you are their responsibility.

Most 5-star will be supportive, but if they ask the girl to register, register her. Just follow their lead, they are looking out for you. This is assuming your girl can register.

Try to get back before 10-11 pm, which may not be realistic from KTV / bar.

If you don't register, I've been in elevators with the cops and hotel manager going to some poor unsuspecting fool's room. Don't use "look nearby", I don't think entrapment is a thing here.
