Praa Mau is where you went to get prolonged visa at Polcia Federal. That's the place where you went to buy flags of all the 27 brazilian states, aquarium fishes, Policia Militar T-shirts, stun guns, batons and bombeiro T-shirts. Unliked distinguished senhor Vagabundo I would never wear a bombeiro T-shirt in Brazil, but I do have a collection of T-shirts. One is my BOPE-RJ T-shirt and one is my PM-Bahia T-shirt (given to me from a black PM ex-virgin in Bahia).

A big loss is in Rio is the Filippino Bar. It was one of the must fun places in Rio. Cheap beer and you could put Morango do Nordeste by Lairton ten times over in the jukebox. Scandinavian Bar closing was no loss. Florida Bar was a worse loss than Help. Florida used to have live shows, dildo shows, lots of nude dancers and cheap f*cks. The last time I went upstair it cost me and my friend R$65 for for us bringing 2 girls one stair up. All holes allowed and no time limits. The old condom lady, on f*ck floor, was busy knitting a shirt and she forgot the time. Florida Bar used to get full when there were ships in the harbour. It happened several times that the dancer girls went back home to the apartments, f*cking and never charging anything.

The green marble facade was unique. It's pretty worn now and could definitely use an update but for $20 USD a night you can't complain. Location is great. I recently stayed at Atlantico Prime on Rua Resende in Lapa and it was considerably nicer. Paid about are $650/ week for a deluxe room. Mostly all Brazilian tourists there. Dark and quiet except on weekend nights when I'd hear a little activity. Guest friendly. About a 10 minute walk to Metro Carioca.

Thanks for your update and peek into the hotel's past. Yes, I do remember it being called the Hotel Sao Francisco and it was used like my all-time favourite, go to centro hotel, back-in-the-day, the Sao Bento.

Like the Sao Bento, it was located directly across the road from the night club/boate, called Subway. Which had it moments as a great late night pickup joint, for GDPs working the area, FLs, MILFs, business men and the late night office centro crowd/lovers, looking for action.

Definitely some old school good times, back then, in the Praca Mauá area.
