Where you stay is not what you should be considering so much in deciding whether to visit Medellin as you can just as easily be robbed in Poblado as in El Centro. You should be looking at how you monger, and sounds like you have ruled out El Centro. So the next question is, do you speak Spanish, if not things will be more difficult for you, especially having incall at an Airbnb or dealing with girls working LLeras or other venues like Fayboo. The language barrier has been discussed here many times and makes a gigantic difference, although others will disagree. Lots of first timers with no Spanish speaking skills just stay at the Mansion, and have everything spoon fed to them at a price, and that might be an option for you. Other guys just make casa / club runs, no Spanish skills necessary, so that might work for you.

Given the current state of affairs with the protests and the Pandemic, if I was like a financial advisor, albeit in this case a "monger advisor" I honestly would not advise anyone one who has never been here before and no Spanish speaking skills to wait and see. I was in Vietnam about five years ago and it was very interesting. As your aware, the Country used to be two Countries (North Vietnam and South Vietnam) up until the early seventies. With South Vietnam being free, not communist up until that time. While travelling around the Country I noticed a stark difference from the North in Hanoi and Saigon in the South. When I was there, there were hookers on the streets in Saigon, not a lot, but I found them, and took them to my Hotel, but maybe that has changed now.

They are still easily available, KTVs, MPs but the price have risen very rapidly. I have not noticed street girl scene in major city. You need to go to rural area to see something that is closer to street scene for about $10 a pop if my conversion is correct. You can find street girls in border town next tp China. It is weird all of a sudden this and another thread are talking about Vietnam.

These countries are still communist countries. One can have private property but only if the party allows you to own them, and they can take it back in a heartbeat. Just look at what happens to Alibaba now. The power is spread between several positions but one person can occupy all positions.

Botero Plaza is a major tourist attraction and it is in El Centro. The tourist area is fine during daytime when there is obvious police presence. When there is a protest, the police may be diverted to protest, then El Centro is not safe without the police.

In El Poblado, you want avoid to be alone in a quiet area. When you wait for Uber, it is better to wait inside the building if it is a quiet street.

Vietnam is not governed as a communist country. It is a one-party government, and that party is the Communist Party, but the makeup of the government is not communism. They do not have a dictator. The National Assembly is the governing body, and it is elected by the people through secret ballots. There is free enterprise throughout the country. Free enterprise is the reason the economy is booming.

I would not classify the mongering there as fabulous. First of all, prostitution is illegal and enforced. I don't know about other cities, but in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) I don't believe there are prostitutes promoting themselves on the streets.

The concept of communism you have in mind only exists in a few random countries. Vietnam actually fought a war against Cambodia (Pol Pot) who tried to put traditional communism in place. Nonetheless, Vietnam has a similar strange hybrid communist / capitalist authoritarian government to China, though Vietnam's is more liberal in some ways. I think you're confusing communism with authoritarianism and single party government.

I would not let your guard down in El Centro, shit happens when you least expect it. I don't know how many times or how much experience you have there, but it is not like Tijuana, with one of the differences being the last thing you want to see in Tijuana are the Police. Again watch your back, especially if your an obvious gringo. As your aware the ladrones are always looking for people with something of value, and their mindset is that all foreigners have something of value, and hence are on the top of the list as potential targets.

On a positive note, no lockdowns this coming weekend and the curfew has been relaxed until midnight, meaning there will be lots of partying going on in town.

In Tijuana, if you see something say nothing; especially to the cops who are in bed with bad guys. The only time I was robbed in Tijuana was by the cops when they"searched" my pockets ($200).

I trust the cops much more in Colombia and they are usually very foreigners friendly.
