Before I get to the session, I've got some words to say about Facebook.

On Wednesday on the flight to Bogota, we flew very close to Medellin. The sun had set and the city was all lit up, but at 39,000 feet there was still a lot of color in the sky. I snapped a picture, which turned out better than I hoped and posted it on Facebook. Although I've let a few girls know about my trip, I didn't make any general announcement.

Why a post gets moved to the "Stupid Shit In Medellin" thread. Occasionally, I'll see stuff that I wonder why it didn't get moved. However, this is the first time a legitimate trip report (mine) has ended up there. Some guys have no problem driving in Medellin, but for me personally, I would be to stressed out by it.

Probably the biggest difference between driving in Medellin versus in a larger City in the USA, is that pedestrians do not have the right of way. This means drivers don't stop for pedestrians 95% of the time, in essence meaning they are "road kill", so I could see getting rear ended easily if I was driving because I would be stopping for pedestrians.

And as far as being cost effective, I don't think so. Taxi's and public transportation are very cheap, so why bother with a car and dealing with all the hills, one way streets, endless red lights, rainstorms, and congested roads.

That's my take on driving here, although others have no problem doing it.

One of my taxi drivers was doing coke whilst driving, if anyone walked into the street, he accelerated like he was playing a video game (I was sitting shotgun thinking, this country is muy loco).

Everything you said is correct. It's not cost effective, the motos are crazy and there are a lot of crazy drivers out there. However, I'm actually enjoying it. The only close call I had was on the drive from Bogota. Was passing slow trucks on a twisting mountain road and decided I could take 2 at once. Should have had a camera crew there because it was some serious stunt driving. Squeezed in front of the truck with about 6 inches to spare.
