I can't answer the first question. I rented an apartment on Booking.com. But there are plenty hotels for all the pockets.

For exchange USD, I suggest you, if you are still in time, to get a Wise (previously known as TransferWise) card. It works in Uganda, I checked on the website. You basically do a wire transfer to the bank account associated to your card, and you convert USD in UGX. Then you withdraw UGX from the ATM. I didn't check Revolut, since I don't have it, but it might be an alternative. You will need cash in Kampala and I don't think it's a good idea to bring cash with you. I never do when I travel.

The best mode of transportation is Uber. Remember you have to pay cash, I read they cancel the ride if you see you have card as a payment method. During the day (not at night) you can take a boda, basically you'll be a passenger on a motorcycle. I have been told there are a lot of accident, so at your risk. Some people prefer Uber. There is a lot of traffic in Kampala, roads are dirty, and motorbikes are old.

My friends and I recently came back from Kampala and t was a blast! Let me share a little.

I was recently told bluntly by a foreigner who has lived in Kenya since 2010 that he's learned to "deal with Africans as if they are liars and beggars. " It sounds like angry advice but it isn't. Anyone who actually visits or lives in Africa has learned this too.

Its OK to doubt if woman in the video was ever a teacher. There is no established cost of anything including salaries so don't equate cost of living with what an African says.

If you want eggs, ask a local the costs then go with someone the first time to buy eggs. Tell the vendor you will be back the next day. Pay the same price. The vendor will be happy to have a Mazunga at their stand. When it comes to transportation, tell them what you will pay to go someplace before going. Housing varies greatly. There are no general rules.

I paid for her food and drink. Plus occasionally I gifted her 50 k UGX to send to her family. Most girls have at least one kid to take care of. Another non negotiable item is the hair and transport expenses. Treat her to chicken meals. They usually can't afford that. Take an African girl to an expensive restaurant is just utter waste of money.

I don't keep books but in the region of 100 to 150 USD a month should be more then enough. Always consider how low the salaries are.

In your earlier post somewhere on the forum, you mentioned how a wise muzungu should calculate GF expenses. He should find out how much a local man pays and add a suitable foreigner surcharge on top. Find out how much the girl's salary and the type of jobs they have.
