Day 7 in Laureles MDE Monday.

Went out with a fellow monger to check the metro out. Took the electric bus to the metro in Oriente. We took it all the way up and back (we didn't dare to get out off the metro). Will look back at all the pics and never forget those barrio's. Seeing them on TV compared to irl is no comparison.

We stopped for some food at a chicken place, in San Jose. The food was muy bien. I notice the meat is tastier than the states due to how Colombia raises the chicken, cattle etc naturally compared to an industry like the states.

We took the electric bus to Miraflores to ride the metro in that area. Doesn't go as high as Oriente but still captured many photos and enjoyed my time.

Could someone tell me how the Civica Eventual works? I bought one, loaded it with like 14 k than the last ride back me and amigo got stuck because no more money on card. We had to wait in a long line to recharge it at a lottery place. Though I didn't mind admiring all the 8-10's walking by but 5 hours in and my feet were killing me.

So finally got it reloaded and took electric bus to san antonio but we got off on the wrong side. So we said fuck it, we'll walk the rest of the way to suriamericana than down to laurels. Up on the bridge we got some nice videos of Colombian traffic. Maybe that video will shut my wife up about how bad usa traffic is once and for all.

We did visit Zandalya casa, as I said the days are all running into each other so don't know if we went on this day or the day prior. 2. The Civica card can be recharged at any station. Look for the ticket booth as you enter. I usually put 20 k on the card and whenever there is no line I'll add more.

Sunday mornings are good days for taking pictures of medellin with your phone. Barely anyone out around 7-9 am. I walked around with my phone, felt safe the entire time. The traffic was also sparse as well. Walked to Unicentro (with phone out capturing the morning vibe) to go to the gym. They don't open until 11 am my phone said on Sundays. Fuck. So I headed back to my spot.

Good report. Just a couple of notes.

1. It's Guatape, the lake with the big stone, not Guadalupe.

2. Sundays and holidays (I believe from 7 am to 2 pm) is Ciclovia. Certain streets are shut down ro traffic and are opened up for walking, jogging, bicycling, skating, etc. I generally refer to it as either Spandex Appreciation Day, or the Camel Toe Parade. In Laureles you'll find it around El Estadio. In Poblado they shut down 1 side of Avenida Poblado and you can follow the route all the way from Envigado to El Centro. If the weather is good, it's a great way to spend a few hours.

3. I'm assuming you haven't had a vasectomy. Don't be too surprised on a later trip to find out you're a daddy.

I took a flight on JetBlue from SFO to FLL it was 10 pm flight arriving at 6:30 am (it was later due to weather affecting the route) I chose JetBlue because I was unhappy with the barebones service that I had experienced on Avianca on my first trip to Medellin. The only advantages of Avianca a national carrier for Colombia is that they help you with the registration. You don't have to Check-Mig they handle it for you when you reach the counter. Also, when I got to customs there wasn't a long line or confusion. On the other hand, with the USA carriers you have to do Check- Mig no earlier than 2 days and at least an hour before you arrive. It's worth repeating that the airlines will NOT let your check your bags or board until you can prove that you have registered. When I got to Medellin the line for customs took over an hour. However, I enjoyed the service on JetBlue far better, outstanding entertainment movies, music and Direct TV at no extra charge. There are snacks that are free they had a pantry you could get all you want. You might want to get a sandwich before you board they don't serve meals per se.l.

Jetblue hands down in Economy has everyone else beat for sure. As far as AVIANCA, well they still at least from LAX to MDE fly the larger jets with Business Class sleeping seats, but when doing a search say on Google or Kayak for business class flights with 180% flat seats from the USA it will only be on COPA. I've seen one way prices on COPA business class at upwards of $ 1,200 yet on AVIANCA about $ 800 for the business class seat with no service literally except coffee or water and a tray of slop to eat for everyone on the plane. And AVIANCA has the best schedule from MDE to LAX with you being able to leave MDE at 9 AM and be at LAX at 7 PM. So no early morning departure and no late arrival.

When I arrived in Medellin, the line for customs was quite long like the last time. It took about 45 minutes or so. There is WiFi so you can entertain yourself on your phone as you wait.

Medellin has a number of large clean modern shopping malls. I like the food courts there and there are plenty of options for eating delicious food for a reasonable price.

Exito is an excellent supermarket chain. They have branches everywhere. They are not the same size. Some are smaller and some are huge. The big ones are quite impressive and offer everything you would need food wise.

When selecting a hotel you do have to be careful to research whether it is guest friendly. Not all hotels allow guests and some charge extra when you have visitors. You can always ask before booking. Now is also the case that some hotels have a written policy about guests but they do not strictly enforce it.

I have stayed in hotel where the policy is no guest after 9:00 pm And the girl came in at 9:30 with no problem. Another hotel said that there was a charge for each visitor but they did not charge me.

I'm still in Medellin now I would say so far the Facebook scene Is as good as ever. There are plenty of young attractive girls interested in meeting gringos to earn a little money. You just need to be patient because they may not respond to you immediately and many are not full-time professionals so you need to start with a little small talk so they can feel comfortable with you.
