" I can't judge whether Global Entry is faster than Moible Passport because I only use Global Entry. Global Entry now operates on facial recognition. From the time I reach the kiosk (I've never had to wait longer than it takes to walk up to one) to the time I exit the immigration area there is a 1 to 2 minute period. I don't know if you could spend less time in immigration unless you stay home.

Yeah, it might be different in other places, but in FLL and MCO using the free Mobile Passport Control app is faster than Global Entry, since they use the same line and Global Entry folks have extra steps to perform at a kiosk.

I was thinking I would definitely avoid centro, but now I am curious to see just how bad it is. I mean, everyone says Colombian girls are some of the hottest in the world; I guess seeing what the bottom of the barrel has to offer really makes one appreciate the 7's and 8's that are out there.

It's been a while but I'd say Parque LLeras averages a 6 and Centro averages a 4. Your chances of find a 9 in Lleras is about as good as finding a 7 in Centro. One upside to Centro is that there are a fair number of bars and casas in the vicinity. If you want to get a look without going just peek at the numerous Youtube videos out there for Centro Medellin. They're of course showing the best of what they've shot but it'll give a sampling.

That Global Entry gets picked up by most credit cards and is a good tool to have. I would have it even if it was not picked up by my CC. Clear is also picked up by my CC so I have that.

Now if we could just figure out how to get through the long lines in Medellin.

Mobile passport is not part of trusted traveler program so at times you are going to get the third degree from customs agents. You are much less likely to get that with GE. Typically, I am asked if I have anything to declare with GE and that is it. Last time I went through customs I was literally asked nothing. You also get the free TSA precheck with GE which is a great value.

Yeah, GE is $100, but many, many credit cards offer up a $100 rebate if you buy GE so in essence it is free for a many travelers.

I agree that mobile passport blows away the regular lines and it is an alternative to GE but I have done both, and GE is way, way better.

To my fellow Centro rats, just out of curiosity what is the back story on the change of name / ownership of Premier Plaza to Botero Casa? The only difference I could see besides the sign is the absence of the gringos who used to hang out on the balcony overlooking ground zero.

Like many things in many places the most obvious way to get something not widely available is to offer up an incentive. How much? How bad to you want it?

I have a friend who has the same proclivity as you. He talks to various "prospective" friends and expresses his considerable experience and that he is very gentle and patient.

I just use the 'free' Mobile Passport Control app and I go faster than Global Entry folks (they have to walk up to some Global Entry kiosk and do stuff there, while Mobile Passport Control users walk right past them). Usually when returning from Colombia I am able to walk past all the Global Entry folks messing with their kiosks and I'm 1st or 2nd at the Mobile Passport Control / Global Entry agent and go straight through.
