A lot of it has to do with cultural differences. See back during the Vietnam War, the North (Hanoi) was communist and more conservative. The South (Saigon) was invaded by western troops. Women flocked to Saigon for the soldiers and the riches to be had from them. The tradition has mostly stayed over the years. Also HCMC is far closer to other sex life hot spots like Phnom Penh and Bangkok.

I agree with everything you said about Fortuna but the one thing you are way off on is Viet girls are afraid of foreigners. That is not the truth in any shape or form. I have had many girlfriends here, hooked up with many random one night stands, when I feel like paying for it, I know where to go, all the places off the beaten path that are not on the internet. Viet girls are very friendly and open to foreigners. A lot of it is the way someone comes off to them, that could be the case with you.

When I meet a Viet girl I say North or South. If they say south I say good. If its North I walk, usually. Its the whole mentality linking the cultural / economic conditions based on the Viet War as stated.

If you are taking to a girl from HCM always call the city Saigon. You'll gain mickey mouse points. Southerners strongly dislike people from the North for obvious reasons.

Gent's first time going to Hanoi and was wondering if anyone could give any recommendations on what areas to stay at or hotels to stay at that is lively vibrant and close to p4 p action. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm probably going to catch some flak for even going here, but I have my reasons. Neko doesn't offer FS. Nothing I saw at Tom's bar or thereabouts seemed interesting. I'm not a regular traveler to Vietnam on business who has connections. I was just there to have fun, and 95% of what I was focused on was above-board tourism, and I didn't particularly want to waste precious time with apps that may not pan out. Frankly I had more money than time on my hands -so off to try my fortunes at Fortuna. Here's my story.

Night 1: Well first off, their "system" is not ideal, but I suppose I knew that going in. There's a $50 "drinking" fee. I don't know how much drinks it covers, but I never ran up against the ceiling, and knew I probably wouldn't unless drinks were outrageously priced. The $40 "sitting fee" is more objectionable, but at that point it's "in for a penny, in for a pound. " Then there's a "suggested" tip for the mamasan, strongly hinted at around $30-40. You can't simply come in and seat yourself at the bar and peruse the scene the way I would have wanted.

Plus $130 for the girl.

They bring them out in groups of 10 or so, and if you don't like what you see, they bring out another group. So selection is good. I hear there's another room in the back, where they supposedly have "better," "newer" talent. But they said it was "full. " Hmmm. Maybe I should've held out. But I found one smiling young cutie who was acceptable. Looks 7/10, but she was friendly and that helps.

Oh, and there's the matter of the room. My hotel is supposedly "guest friendly," but I'd already asked them for a lot, and I just didn't feel like the hassle of testing it out was worth it. $40 gets you a decent room right there in the hotel. Just to make things hassle-free. Service was good. Body wasn't perfect -once she took off the dress, you could see she wasn't amazingly fit, but again, friendly and enthusiastic. Practically begged me for a second shot (more money, I'm sure). But by then I was good.

Night 2: This time I was determined to hold out for someone really hot, and I would've insisted on seeing the second room if I hadn't found someone who interested me. As it turned out, I did. Looks. 9/10. Maybe 10, depending on what you're into. She also knew some English, which was nice. Says she's a professional who works in a big international firm by day (won't say her name, or what she does, or what firm, and you'll understand why in a minute). But the salary is low, and a friend told her she should try this place and she'd make a lot more money.

Anyway, can't complain about the sex. I think she wanted me to finish quicker, but she definitely tried to put on a good show.

I can just imagine. Your company sends you on a business trip. You're fantasizing about that Viet hottie in say, marketing, and there she is for the asking at Fortuna!

I knew I'd be back in Hanoi one more time mid-week, so at the end, I asked her what my prospects were of running into her again. Unfortunately she said no -like she said, she has a regular job, and only does this on the weekends. Well then. What about meeting up Outside of this place in the middle of the week? She said I can't tell mamasan, because she'd get in trouble if she did that, but basically, Yes. So we exchanged WhatsApp numbers and off I went.

So there is definitely that option -go there, find someone you like, and see if you can arrange to meet elsewhere on her day off. Should definitely cut down on costs.

As it happened, when I came back, I met some people, we went out drinking, and the rest was history. I usually find that if you try and relive the same experience, it rarely lives up to expectations anyway.

So did I overpay? Of course. Some would call it a ripoff, and they're not wrong. Everybody gets their cut -mamasan, the bar, the hotel, probably the mafia. But at the end of the day, you get hassle-free, enthusiastic full service -not with an average-looking girl, but with a real Viet hottie with zero prior time investment.

You'd have to be either very ignorant or a mug to go to the Boss Club in Fortuna now. This *used* to be a phenomenal place back in the day and was once my default choice of venue. Then they introduced minimum pricing policies at least 10 years ago. It was then that I decided to bow out of this place for good.

Price is not really a good way to infer quality of service. I have had my share of duds in this place as well as star performers (think wife material). At other end of the market, I've been in the Old Quarter and picked up moto girls for just $20 and had a mindblowing time. Mind you, that's 2007 prices. Could be a little more now.

Recent arrival to Hanoi and first two experiences not good. First one, met on Line, negotiated a price. She came to my hotel. Mistake to go directly to my room and not force her to leave ID at front desk. Once in my room, no kissing (even though she agreed on Line), no BBJ (again, promised beforehand on Line), fake cartoon tits. After I protested, she stopped after 1 minute, put on her clothes and threatened to call someone if I didn't pay the full amount. I didn't want trouble and just paid, but was fuming.

Second experience, met someone on Kynuvienet. Went to cheap hotel, was overcharged for the room. Girl who showed up was not the same one in photo. She was older, shorter, fatter than photo. It was only 500 VND so I just did the deed and paid quickly and left. Be careful of fake photos on the websites, even ones with good reviews.

Overall a bit disappointed. The women in this country are beautiful, though.

I live in Hanoi for the last 10 years. That is just one of the sites. We have better ones here. All the girls use photoshop for the pictures. There are better ways for girls than those sites. There are some good ones on there but have to read the reviews. I am able to read Viet so it is easier for me. Any help just let me know.

What sites would you recommend using? Can always use Translate for the sites only in Viet. Much appreciated!

WeChat is always a risk, and nobody is posting about the hotels that accept female guests that you find on WeChat. Another red flag.

When a forum has more general questions than reports of actual experience, that's a red flag.

Bummer for me since I will be in Hanoi soon.
