Couple of questions
Got 2 questions.
I've seen on some of the soapland websites that they specifically list multiple shots at over an hour. What about TAE and THC and places like that? Is there a standard for how many shots you get to have during the time?
Also, is there an option to pay cash for these services or do you have to pay online with a card?

Every place will take cash. At soapland, at the waiting lounge they will take payment ahead of time. For TAE, the girl shows up to your room and takes payment in cash first. Same with THC. Gingira does it different, where a driver brings the girl and you pay the driver. Many adult establishments (including oppai pubs and hostess clubs) will charge a 10% fee for CC, this is normal since the CC company ultimately charges them more too since they are high risk. So I would use cash when possible, but have CC as backup because things happen.
For multi-shots, it depends the most on the girl and also how well you get along with. For example at Kira Kira with Mone, I got bbbj 4 times and fs 2 times with her. I don't shoot every time, but I could have. Hinata at Etoile asked me how many shots I wanted before we started. But with many other soap girls, they had less experience and/or attitude. You are simply paying for time at soapland, so you get to decide how to use it but it is between you and the girl how well it goes. Every girl does expect to get at least 1 shot out of you. Many guys are simply 1 shot anyways.
THC says 60 minutes means 1 shot and 90 minutes is unlimited shot. Other shops also have a similar concept where longer times suggests more shots. But those are just advertised minimums. I have always gotten more than the minimum with extras just by getting along with the girl. Girls will tell me what they'll do, and they deliver. Don't expect a girl to deliver what another girl did for you. It's up to the girl.
Exchanging Money and ATMs
For large sums like $5K, I would simply bring that cash and convert it at the airport right after exiting customs. Narita and Haneda have an exchange just outside customs and it is the best rate in the country. Note that online currency exchange rates always publish the 'mid' rate which nobody actually gets. The Buy/Sell rate is +/- 2.5% typically, and the Japanese airport exchange will give you exactly that which is unusually good. The US airport will not! This rate is better than the ATM after fees (or tied if you have an online bank that reimburses fees).
There are slightly better exchanges in major locations like Shinjuku that will beat the 2.5% margin slightly, but it will cost you time and money if you aren't already going there. I went out of curiosity and the shop was closed when I went (they open 11am), and in any case I had appointments beforehand so it was a non-starter. Whereas with ATMs, they had a double fee which worked out to be $12 to $15. The ATM withdrawal limit aside, that's slightly worse than the airport exchange.
You can improve this if you use a Schwab investment account (do NOT open a checking account it will LOWER your limit). On the form make sure to check you want an ATM card issued. The investment account ATM card has a $1000 limit and waives all ATM fees. Many times in the US, the ATM itself has a $500 limit but you can just use it twice in a row. Family Mart convenience stores in Japan will take US ATM cards (most Japanese ATMs do NOT). Take note if it's been 2 or more years since you went to Japan, the bills have changed so every single ATM has been switched out. This means many ATMs that worked with US bank cars for 20+ years no longer do. But the Family Mart ones do now.
Naturally, you can use a credit card for non-adult shops without the 10% fee. So hotel, shows, tours I'll book by credit card. Restaurants and shopping with smaller sums I usually use cash out of habit.
I still have my Suica card, and I use that for JR, subway lines, and buying drinks from vending machines. You can top it off at any JR station at the ticket machines. This saves a lot of time with tickets and making change, and the ticket gates automatically calculate your fare. Entering, it subtracts the minimum fare. Exiting, it subtracts any additional fare if you went further than the minimum. If you have a problem of any kind, find the station master who can fix your Suica or solve your ticket problem.
Btw, if you lose an important item on the train, go to the station master immediately. They will call ahead to the correct station and that station master will personally hop on the train to the car you said you were in and find what you lost. It is most important you know which train it is (i.e. what time and at what station) and which car, because then can track it down. Worst case, it gets picked up at the last station (every train is checked eventually). You then show up to that station and ask the station master for what you lost. If it's a phone, it's not hard to prove its yours since you can unlock it.
First image attached is what a waiting room looks like. A high end one will have a server show up and give you a drink menu and take your order (included). Whereas at most soaplands, there's vending machines and water coolers etc.. Next two images are the Manzoku shops in Kabukicho. There are a dozen startup competitors offering free info, but they aren't as reliable and knowledgeable as Manzoku. Manzoku will only take you to legit shops, they've been in business for decades and I've used them for decades. Next is the street leading up to Shibuya Galaxy, TAE, and Tora no Ana, and Dotonbori Theater. You make a right at the end of the photo. The area is Dogenzaka in Shibuya.
Google maps is very good for getting around Tokyo, just keep in mind in any area with tall buildings like Shinjuku your phone will lose GPS accuracy (turning on Mobility metrics can help). It will even direct you to best stairway (every exit in/out of a station is given a name/letter label).
THC/DH price example
Last image is the price sheet for THC. Note how 90mins lists infinite shots. THC Hasumi is JAV, and I chose 90 minutes, so the rate is 42k plus 2k delivery. 44k ($280) is exactly what I paid her when she showed up. Delivery fees in Tokyo range 0k to 4k and depend on how far away you are from the shop. So if I stayed in Shibuya, TAE was 1k cheaper than versus Shinjuku. Most DH shops have a small nomination fee too (unless you ask booker to send you first availble). TAE is unusual in that they show pre-tax prices and add 10% on after. But they are cheap and good for what they deliver.

Also at 7 Eleven.

In regards to ATMs
Honestly I find ATMs to still be the most convenient and economical. 7-11 ATMs have been working fine for my current trip and the fee is only 220 yen which my bank reimburses. Just deny the ATM conversion or else it'll be around 4% fee. Just find a bank that does free forex and they'll usually have the best rate.

ATMs

Yes, ATMs are better for most people. You can take out just what you think you'll need and not have to worry about having too much money on you. I used the ATM last half of my trip to keep track of my budget.
The reason I use the airport currency exchange is I know I'll be needing a lot more. Each ATM visit is a detour, and it takes 5 or 10 visits to get all the cash. With the 24-hour limit reset, it meant going to the ATM 12pm one day, 1pm the next day, 2pm the next day. A visit to Hinata at Etoile was 83k for example ($528), and I have UTR girls I see multi-hour. Schwab's limit of $1000 helps with that.
Definitely, do not ask for currency conversion or it's about 4% like you said. The Family Mart ATMs don't ask about conversion but other ATMs in the past did. I saw the 220 yen fee but my US bank charged an additional fee of about $10. The ATM has no way of knowing so it will only give a generic warning. For a ~$400 withdrawal that was a 3% fee plus about 1.5% exchange rate margin. For a few uses, the ATM is better.
Most people will want to hit the Checking option, or Credit if it is a credit card cash advance. Many ATMs dispense only 10k bills, so even if your limit is $500 or $1000, you'll need to go under that limit. Since $500 is about 78,600 yen now, then for example the most I could get is 70,000 or $445.
Cash Advance
If you are doing cash advance with your credit card, hit Credit at the ATM. It's for emergency use, and you'll need to know your CC's PIN. Many people don't have these set, and many CCs for security reasons won't let you change it during travel. For example, they will mail the new PIN to your home and you can then use that PIN to set your desired PIN. But one of my CCs let me set my PIN by app, so I used that.
With cash advance, unlike normal purchases you pay interest from that day forward. The credit cards I use, it's not enough to pay off your monthly balance - I need to pay my cc balance down to zero. Even though it is high interest, it is per day meaning 5-10 days is practically nothing (ex: 15% interest would be .04% interest per day since it is 15 / 365 = .04). So it works for emergency use. They make their profits off of people who don't pay off the balance plus the small fee if any. Your statements should show a small amount of interest for that next month, just make sure it doesn't the month after.
UTR Rates
The reason I bring a lot to spend in Japan is the same girl in Japan is sometimes half price, even 1/3 price on occasion. Other times, the girl wants US rates since it is UTR.
This is an important distinction with UTR. A few girls will actually charge you more for UTR for a combo of reasons. You could call it GPS, but most of the time it is very practical. If you visit her at her shop, she can see guy after guy and it is efficient and reliable for her. Whereas for UTR, it can take her a lot of prep to see you and you could even no show her. For example, one girl would take the train more than one hour into Tokyo, work, then see me after her job, then take the train an hour back. If I stayed at a far away station, it could add an hour or two hours round trip to her seeing me.
What this means is even if I see her for just 1 hour, at a minimum it costs her 2 to 4 hours of mostly transportation. Which in her case, she could only save because it was along the way for her work. If you understand this, you'll understand why some girls can't even see you in the first place unless it is a certain day and certain hour. Whereas a different girl who lives a few stations away can do it more easily and cheaply. This is why the price and value of UTR varies so wildly.
For this same reason, it often makes more sense to book the girl normally through her shop. She is set up to show up on time, no flaking, it's reliable. You don't even have to tell her you're booking her. It's often cheaper. It is really a tiny percentage of girls I will UTR with as a result. I wouldn't normally recommend it.

Anyone been to and-cat in Kyoto recently? Would really love to hear an updated review / opinion! Or recommendations for similar places in Kyoto.

Business trip perks
In Tokyo with only just enough time to squeeze in some fun for this wonderful hobby of ours.
Firstly, thanks too all on the forum leaving valuable info. As a newbie to Japan, I took the safe option of a love hotel in Shibuya, and ordering from TAE.
I ordered using the whatsapp link from their website and she knocked at my room exactly on time. I'm in my 50's soi was overjoyed this cute japanese girl laughed at my jokes, and behaved like she was wildly attracted to me. Wow, what a service. I paid 27,500 (cash to girl) and then an additional 10,000 for FS. Somehighlights were her guiding my hand to her wet pussy, passionate kissing, and telling me she loved having her pussy licked.
Yes, more expensive than thailand, Philippines etc but wow what great time I had. It was a wonderful hour and I was almost falling in love by the end of it.
The girl' names was Aika and she is tall and thin. Just my type.
Thanks again for the info everyone. What a wonderful experience. I hope the next one is as good.
Yes, more expensive than thailand, Philippines etc but wow what great time I had.
Is it though? In 2026?
You paid 37500 yen. That's 235 dollars. About 7500 Baht.
For sure guys in Bangkok and Manila spend that much and more going to go go bars, buying drinks, buying lady drinks, paying bar fines, and paying a girl for sex.
Are there cheap options? Sure, but there are cheaper options in Tokyo too.
Dollar for dollar, I think TAE is hard to beat, assuming you're into banging 19 year old Asian women with natural bodies.

Another thing with the places like Jan Jan. Can you wear a condom if you want? Would you have to bring your own. I will probably skip it as the idea of someone just going person to person bare is not something I want, sounds much more risky than everything else. But covered could make it a little better. Just sounds like an interesting new experience.

In Thailand I've paid similar, but it's been a while so perhaps things have changed.
I don't do big nights out on bar scene, but a couple of drinks, couple of lady drinks, and barfine are quite affordable. In Angeles, Philippines approx $100. In Manila would be more.
Tokyo from TAE definitely more expensive, but. Based on my single experience only (- was a service of a higher quality.
I don't have enough time in tokyo to really get to know how the scene. I hope to get another business trip that returns me here.

Great info. I've only done the love hotel route once and it's what most locals do. It is convenient for a lot of people and it's fun to try different rooms. Thanks for giving intel for the next people to try it.
I hope you keep winning next trip.
My strategy on repeat visits is to see if a girl I liked is available again. She might be on break or not working anymore, so I don't expect it. It feels like 50-50 for those reasons, so I just make a list of options and rank them and go through the list in order. If I have a list of 6 girls, I'll see 3. You have to have some discipline not to be greedy and try to see too many. But also, no point in dwelling on a girl who isn't working the days you are free. There are a lot of choices.
TAE's strong point is the girls are young, amateur, and cheap. They are foreigner / English friendly.

Culture wise I think Thailand is pretty darn cool too and their temples are a lot prettier than the ones in Japan. But as far as the girls, I'll keep an open mind. I've sessioned with Japanese girls who come to Toronto Canada for a tour and so far I don't see their looks nor service in the bedroom any better than other Asian girls but I'm looking forward to my trip to Japan later this summer to see if they are actually worth their premium rates. Even if it ends up that my experiences with them in Japan is just about the same as with Thais, Pinays, Chinese and Koreans, I know for sure that the touristy things in Japan will be amazing.
