Well, unlike in the US, tip or gratuity in Germany is not expected even in the cafe, restaurants. Regarding tipping the prossies, the general concensus here is to ask and then pay for the extra service which is not available in the standard price.

The problem with tipping where tipping is not expected is that you spoil the market make it difficult for your other fellow punters. But hey it is your money, so do what you want or what you believe.

This is subject to debate. But I wonder with the tip culture, if you tip the waitresses in the restaurant, why do not you tips your doctors, nurses, policemen. Doctors, nurses and Policemen save life.

Have a look at the map view of hotels on TripAdvisor. Hotels in Berlin are cheap by international standards. Here at SANA hotel, I am getting a new 600 sf suite for 150 Cad per night. It's amazing. There are a bunch of places $50-70 in the west end as I recall. I don't know about hourly rentals, but probably not worth it.

You are better off going to Artemis. The Ibis hotels can be had for around 50 E if you look around. If you take one that is far from the center, you will pay in the girls transportation costs.
