Similarly, I did not hang out at any bars or clubs this last visit (December 2011. Trip report to come later) , but I do know that earlier posts detail the type of clientel of the various bars / clubs in downtown Kampala, Kabalagala, and on the way toward Entebbe. However, I will say that most women are approachable in Kampala though you may not always score. Just think of it like in any sport. No one is 100 percent successful in scoring in any sport. Nor should one want to score 100 percent of the time for various reasons. But it is doable to approach a lady on the street, even during the daytime and exchange contact information. Just be mindful that Ugandan women are very conscious about their image in the community and do not appreciate disrespect in public (that is why some Ugandan women prefer foreigners over the native guys since the native guys can be quite rude). But I have visited a few clubs on a prior visit to Kampala and I can assure you have nothing to worry about being a white guy. The Ugandan women love white guys. Just use common sense when out and about. Everywhere I have gone this past year and before, I have never encountered any problems walking the streets of a given city, even late at night (and I have been in places like Haiti, Lagos Nigeria, Dakar Senegal, Manila and Angeles City Philippines, Nairobi and Mombasa Kenya, Malawi, Freetown Sierra Leone, Phuket Thailand, Bali Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Bronx New York City, Los Angeles California. You get the picture) and the only people I had to fend off where the begging mothers in Nairobi and the hawkers in various places. I have never been pickpocketed or mugged (knock on wood). But then again, I have never drank alcohol to the point that I became intoxicated (I find that is a common thread among those who get into fights or get taken advantage of) and I have never done anything indecent (which invites the local law enforcement and even imposters to take advantage of your predicament, such as banging a chick in a public venue).

All hotels in Kampala are girl-friendly perhaps with the exception of Serena Hotel (when I was there, I inadvertently walked into conference hall where the Prime Minister was holding a meeting. Oh and I was wearing shorts among all these men and women wearing suits! I just thought all the added security was due to the terrorist threats. I was actually trying to get to the hotel's business center to access some reliable Wifi). Of course, the key to them being gf is paying for a double or accepting when they tack on the surcharge when you have an overnight guest. The key question is which side of Kampala Road do you want to stay on? Sheraton, Speke, Serena, and Imperial hotels are on the upper scale side of Kampala Road. Hotels such as JBK, Holiday Express, Aponye, etc are on the hustle and bustle side of Kampala Road. I like being close to the hustle and bustle area of any place I go on my own dime since I usually stay on the other side of the tracks when I travel for business.

Also be mindful that there are some hotels you can stay at in the Kabalagala area which is right where a lot of the night action takes place. To date I have not ventured to Kabalagala during the night (only went there during the day to check out Ethiopia Village, yes that Ethiopia Village from the 2010 World Cup incident) , but I plan to go there on my next visit. Also the main reason I didn't venture out to any night clubs was because my Uganda visit was at the tail end of a 45 day monger tour (Nairobi and Mombasa Kenya, and Lilongwe and Blantyre Malawi were my earlier stops) , and I was getting fucking tired! Literally and figuratively! I banged my girlfriends most days and nights, and I also did work as well so I saw no point in going out to the night clubs. Next time, I will visit Uganda earlier when I am refreshed.

What type of places do you like? What kind of girls do you like? Simple and easy-going? Glamorous? Office chicks? Students? Do you like upmarket places or are you more happy in shorts and flip-flops? Bars / pubs or nightclubs? Easier to make a recommendation if you let us know what you like.

Most of the upmarket clubs have a number of pros and semi-pros mixing with the regular chicks. For upmarket chicks, try Amnesia or Guvnor. Club Rouge on Wednesday, Friday or Saturday after midnight is also good. Cayenne is swamped with pros, but also has a fair share of non-pros. Pretty much all of Kabalagala is empty of non-pros. Hotel bars are not particularly good, most are popular with semi-pros looking for money. An exception is Equator at Sheraton, which is also popular with non-pros (however, it's also got a large amount of pros and semi-pros).

Do note that unless you are a mix of Clark Gable and Tom Cruise, the girls who are most aggressive / keen to talk to you are usually looking for money. It takes a tiny bit of effort to get to know non-pros, but your success rate should be really high.

Do avoid groups of students who will nag you for drinks the whole night for "your girl" and all her girlfriends, and then just leave you at the end of the night at 6am.

I spent about 10 days in Kampala and got around the city by boda boda (yes I must have been getting tired and lax as I don't even ride motos in the US). This is the cheapest and most efficient way of getting around within the city but I would not choose this option to venture far outside of Kampala (too dangerous in terms of accidents). But again please note that I did not say it is the safest way to get around within the city; I just decided that getting to my destination within the city in a timely manner at a low cost was worth the risk to my personal well being (nope, I never wore a helmet). Whenever I go on mongering trips I choose to stay among the locals, and in Kampala this meant staying on the side of Kampala Road where the hustle and bustle of city life happens right outside of your hotel. I stayed at Aponye Hotel, a nice low budget hotel not necessarily close to the action (unless you are looking for street action; I wasn't). I believe I paid 55K UGX for the double room I stayed in, which given the exchange rate at the time, amounted to abour 25USD per night. Featured free Wifi (didn't work that well even when the signal strength was strong) , hot running water, and mosquito bed netting. It was for this reason that I ventured first to Sheraton (they don't allow non-guests to purchase and use Wifi) then to Serena to use Wifi in the business center. For those requiring need to stay connected, you also have the option of purchasing a dongle at a few places that are unlocked such that you can use any of the mobile broadband sims. Just know that it will cost you. I paid 1, 950KSH (roughly 20USD) for a similiar Safaricom dongle and SIM that included a week of free unlimited internet in Nairobi whereas I would have had to pay 80USD for just the plastic dongle itself (I did talk the guy down to 60USD, but still that was too much IMHO and passed on the setup). I would have had to purchase a SIM and the accompanying top-up credits in order to actually use it, so I figured dropping 100USD just to connect to internet was a bit too much for me. Heck, if I refuse to drop 100USD for a piece of p4p, I certainly was not going to drop the same just to use the internet. Also, breakfast was NOT included in the room cost, but if you wanted the breakfast in the hotel restaurant, it ran 6K UGX. I preferred to venture out and experience the variety of Ugandan food out and about, and in doing so, found some great eats that were a bit less expensive but definitely more satisfying.

So in the end, I only was with two different ladies, but I met a bevy of others that I would have bagged had it not been the Christmas season and their plans to travel back to their villages (some had invited me to come along but that would have taken me out of my element which is to be available for maximum banging). A couple of places in Muyenga that are worth a visit:

Miami Club on the left down the hill past Hotel International. Run by Chinese who have a sister enterprise in Kololo. Very smart girls there, all between 20 and 30 years. The room quality and price varies between UGX 20, 000 and 40, 000. For the high end you get a double bed and bathroom. Room is pretty dismal, but thats not the point. The girls are all geared up for extras, price negotiable between you and the girl. They will want UGX 100k, but will settle for 50k. 60k. All services provided.

Bamboo Club on the right going up the hill before you get to Hotel International. Its a health club and the rooms are very seedy with a massage table, no bed.
