The normal way in Japan is phone, but I've used Asian Mystique once and only contacted them by email. The girl will need your phone number though, for the meeting point.

The first time I went to Love Chanko I was given a "thorough" language testing. I wrote about it in a post long ago. Essentially, the tencho handed me the laminated "rules" sheet and asked me to read the card out loud and explain to him in Japanese what the card said and meant. I selected a few lines of text I recognized and rambled off the standard business response. No tattoos, no rough stuff, no one drunk, etc. Eventually he gave me approval and made a member's card for me. Nevertheless, our entire conversation was in Japanese. I haven't been there in at least 4 months but the last time I was there a different tencho (as expected) was running the show. I walked right up, told him my name and he pulled my card from a file. I selected a provider, paid the moola and off I went to do my business no questions asked.

As for me, it is much more fun (and much cheaper) to leave the hotel and get into town! Take Yamanote line (S-Bahn-Ring in German) to red light districts in Shinjuku or Ueno, for instance. One of my cheap favorites: New York New York and Champs soaplands in Ueno (map:

Successive tencho's I've encountered there were nothing like the first guy. Perhaps that first guy I came across was just having a bad day, I don't know. All I know is I tried to be as nice and polite as possible and it worked out for me.

I checked out Love Chanko last weekend and agree you need to speak pretty good Japanese and also ready some Katana to be able to figure the map and where the hotel is. I made it through the test, here is my cheat sheet.

The first question he asks is if you are a member or not. I said No "Hajimete" for first time.

Then he shows you a laminated paper with a bunch of Web banner ads and a Google logo on one side and Yahoo logo on the logo. He asks you how you found the shop and say google.

Then he brings another card with the prices. This basically in English and you point to the number of minutes that you want.

Then he shows you the girls and you pick one.

Then he should me the price menu again and had me pick again.

Then he explained the system and I have to to a hotel and then call him and then he ask me what kind of hotel I want. And then he called the hotel to see if they are free. And then he should be a confusing map and I had to memorize the name of the hotel and the Japanese characters. Throughout this process he asks me random questions like what country I am from. This part was pretty difficult and I would not have passed it 6 months ago when my Japanese level was less good.

Then he brings out the dreaded card with the rules on it and asks me to read it. There is no way I could read it so I just nodded and said OK. Then he said in English "No Sex" and I said OK and that was it. Then he gave me a little card with his phone number and a map to find the hotel.

Overall the guy was nice, but you need to speak Japanese to communicate with him. It is not as easy as Grimpeur, they will walk you right to the hotel if they think you need help.
