During my visit in Tokyo, the weather has been nice enough to facilitate some long morning jogs, so I decided to get a Thai Massage at Asian Feeling.

Do not be fooled by touts. I RTFF and was well prepared. Also, I have done this in many countries so I am usually cautious. However, I was sucked in. They (Japanese not African) take your money and then ask for more when you decide to leave. They block the door and manhandle you to give them an outrageous amount. I stood firm and was "lucky" to have left 30,000 lighter after paying another 30,000 yen. They almost had me go upstairs after paying them but I was fortunate to push the down button before he got in the elevator. The standard offer is 30, 000 yen, but that's too much under any circumstances and certainly too much when you add the cost of getting robbed. Anyway, I had just 18, 000 yen in my pocket and was able to escape by pleading poverty. The place really sucks.

I stopped by Asian Feeling, which seems to be an honest, gaijin-friendly place, but every woman was busy until about an hour later. I said that I would return but got so turned off by the touts that I just went back to my hotel. I have been to Japan before and never had very good luck, between the Japanese-only places and the strong-arm men. I fly back to Florida on Monday and can get what I need there much more safely.

I totally agree. At least back home, there is some recourse for robbery and kidnapping. Do not go with a tout "upstairs" especially where the is only one elevator since here is no escape. Do not go to a bar that is small and has a small door that can be closed. I was lucky to escape rather uninsured but they initially wanted 80,000 yen plus the 30,000 that I paid when I went in. I hardly spent any time there. The good news is that I put most of my money in another pocket before going to Kabukicho hey looked at what I had when I was paying them and would have taken all of it if I had it in my wallet. Avoid this place at all cost!

If the touts bother you and you can avoid it, try not to wander around Kabukicho at night. You should know exactly where you want to go, and the most direct route to get there. If you don't speak Japanese, your tried and true choices are going to be limited anyway. Use Google streetview, memorize the landmarks, and go. If you are going to explore Kabukicho, and you don't want to get hassled, do it in the morning or afternoon. In the past, I used to completely ignore touts. Yes, Sugamo station, on the JR Yamanote line is a well reviewed stop off for cheap gaijin-friendly pink salons. Exit the ticket gates and veer left young man, veer left! That said, I typed "Jan Jan" into this forum's thread search and it came up empty! Jackson take note. Nonetheless, it's a cheaper alternative to the pink salon "Hinomaru" in Kabukicho.
