This little hotel next to bar Valentina, with the pink fluorescent lights, is only on the 2nd story of that building. It's possible there is connection to hotel Coahuila on the Adelita side.

It rents ST rooms to the street putas for $6. The towels say hotel Coahuila, but I don't think it is the same as the Adelita's hotel.

There were a couple pretty girls, sisters, hang out in the door way. The older sister was murdered by her BF. After that they were all gone!

Thanks to you, ItsMeBeyatch, and TomJackin for clearing that up! Would be kind of fun to find out what that short-term hotel next to La Valentina calls itself. It's official name I mean. Since they use towels displaying the name "Hotel Coahuila," do you think that short-term hotel is owned by the same folks as Hotel Coahuila or are they a different company, in which case I suppose the hotel would have a different name. Just a little fun Tijuana trivia, I guess.

A photo on Google Maps shows there's a hotel door in the alley right next to La Valentina bar. Does that hotel door lead to Hotel Coahuila or a different hotel? Hotel Coahuila, of course, is the hotel for Adelita Bar.

The alley side couhila hotel is for SW and the front side adelita entrance side is for Adelitas chicas. I've never stayed for a full night at the Adelitas hotel but I've been to both (alley side & Adelitas entrance side) and I'd rather go to my own room in cascadas. That's just my opinion

And calling the lobby won't get you a reliable answer either. Today I called Hotel Coahuila using my best broken Spanish, and the employee there assured me there was an exit door from the hotel to both the calle and the callejon. Oh well. Thanks, Tomjackin, sounds like the public cannot enter and exit from the callejon. Maybe that hotel sign in the alley is for a different hotel renting space in the building.

Funny thing is the employee first told me there was only one exit, and then quickly switched his answer to two exits after I asked again. My Spanish is pretty rusty these days, having taken 3 Spanish classes many, many years ago at MU (11 credits), but I understood him perfectly and he understood me. Can't wait to practice my Spanish on las chicas bonitas en las avenidas!

Thanks very much for verifying! Much appreciated. I'll probably still go with Cascadas, even though the rooms don't look as big and luxurious in that YouTube video as they look in the photos on the Cascadas web site. It's amazing what you can do with camera angles, I guess. Haha.

The YouTube videos for the rooms at Hacienda de Santiago, Hotel Nelson, and Hotel Caesar look bigger and nicer, but I think I'm too chicken to make that walk 5 or 6 times a day.

I just confirmed it with a member on a different site, yes, there is an alley exit to the hotel. Did not know that until 5 minutes ago.

First question: What is the dress code in HK? Everyone is pretty much wearing jeans? Are shorts with sandals acceptable? Or would I be the only Gringo wearing shorts / sandals? Trying to decide exactly what to pack in my suitcase.

We don't often write about dress code. Long ago someone wrote that you would look out of place if you wore shorts; I disagree. If you are a gringo, there is no point trying to dress like you are Mexican because they will figure you out real quick.

Some men wear sandals, but I always wear solid shoes. The sidewalks are in bad shape and it is easy to stumble and twist an ankle.

If it is cool, I wear an neat looking shirt (and maybe a windbreaker) and cargo pants. If it is warm, I wear a golf shirt and cargo shorts. Some of the girls will run their toes up your shorts, which I find to be quite enjoyable. For me, the most important thing is to wear pants with lots of large zippered pockets (wallet, keys, condoms, lube, cell phone). If you are still carrying a passport, that's another reason to wear cargo pants or shorts.

I've done some experiments wearing nice clothes (office casual) versus workman's clothes (worn Dickies or similar). I got slightly better price from the less attractive street walkers when I wore workman's clothes. But, the hotter HK girls seemed more available to me if I work nicer clothes. Cargo pants or shorts is my compromise.

So, are there any other transport means I should consider to get from San Diego airport to HK?.

No dress code so jeans / shorts are fine. Take a rental car shuttle bus (Alamo ie) to the trolleys to San Ysidro. Then you can taxi to HKC for $4 or walk in daytime -- takes about 20 -25 minutes. Just cross the two bridges and go about three blocks west of the big arches. You can take small luggage into HKC and check it there if you like.

Second question: Assuming I fly into San Diego (seems to be much cheaper than flying internationally), I assume the easiest way to get to the border is via the trolleys. I see by Google Maps that I take two trolleys for about an hour and a half total to get down to the border (the San Ysidro Transit Center). Then, I take it that I just hoof it to the border, cross by foot, and on the other side, I just hop into a taxi for the rest of the remaining journey to HK? I take it that it's ok and relatively safe to navigate this part of the journey lugging all of my luggage around with me (a backpack and small suitcase)?

So, are there any other transport means I should consider to get from San Diego airport to HK?

To simplify things, I would plan on staying at Cascadas at HK.

I do love that balcony. You can relax while being in the zona and not directly being in the zona. If that makes sense. I did notice that the store inside the hotel is open more regularly. Before it was hit and miss. I had to walk to the stores in the alley for some snacks.

Like I said, I think they are trying to promote it so maybe they can make more pesos.

I haven't been to Tijuana in 2 weeks. What new balcony? Is there a new balcony or is it the same one that's on the alley side?. I'd hardly call it new. But I do enjoy it if it's the one on the alley side.

Yes, anyone can hang out on the alley balcony. There used to be a phone on the balcony, but the last time I was there the phone was gone. So if you want drinks or food, go to the hotel desk and they will call up a HK mesero. Whatever you do, DO NOT take any photos from that balcony; you would be asking for trouble. Many things go down in the alley, some you may want to see, and some not.

The Cascadas has the alley exit and that if the best way to get to the balcony. At the Cascadas, you can bring up girls from HK, LC, and SGs to boot.

BTW, I just took this photo last night, so I guess they are trying to promote the balcony.
