Driving back, I was stopped by the cops at a local check point. Was with my sister at that time after a late night movie show (post 1 am, at night) she had insisted on (stupid SRK movies she was drooling on) . They asked me about her identity, and threatened to call her parents. I politely showed them our Driving Licenses and they let us on our way after apologizing to us for their initially rude behavior (believe me when I say that they were rude before I showed the "Father's name" on the DLs). Second time, I was pulled over for driving around late midnight with a girl is just friends with. Ended up paying the cops something. Just for not calling her parents..

I stayed in Delhi / NVR for 13 years and that was the the time I did everything. Literally. Party everyday. Fuck everyday and drive drunk (never had accident or killed anyone). And whenever police stopped (almost everyday) all I used to do was stop the car, put on the lights, roll down the glass and say Hello,.

And the question always would be, Where are you going. Where from? My answer is same every day. From Party. To home.

And thankfully never had issue.

But yes, was always dreaded about Gurgaon crowd, while walking with my pick at early mornings.

I would disagree, I say we need to very aggressively confront these SPs who are overcharging. I've really lost my temper in the past and got really pissed off and told various SPs I would kick their ass if I ever saw them, that is how pissed off I got by their bullshit over quoting prices. If enough of us stopped tolerating their shit, I think some of them would change and lower their prices. Because it is an insult to us, for them to think we are stupid enough to pay such high prices. Why should we humbly tolerate such insults?

Agree with you buddy, sometime if I quote 1.5-2 K SP make me feel like I am very cheap. And they are selling cheap stuff at 3 k. It don't make any senses. I don't know who is paying too much high prices to them.

This forum is basically for sharing contacts and keep prices in check still some of us (might be ones who visiting Delhi for short span of time) paying too much hiked prices. Aren't the majority of the police in Delhi just a bunch of backwards minded villagers who have a 12th century mentality? It's as you said, there is basically no functional legal system in India and the police can simply do whatever they want to. They will blackmail you for having a girlfriend out late at night, meanwhile they will go back to the police station and [CodeWord123] women there. There is nothing "moral" about it, they are simply after your money. Read between the lines.

It's not about the legalities. It's about ground-realities.

They have the power to grab you from your favorite hotel, and then drag you to their station in front of a media studded road (no matter who you might think you are). Just because they can. Even without a license, and especially in case they have an "unspecific warrant".

How do you fare? Obviously not well. Best to just stay away from them. Pay them in case you get caught, and just get out of it because even they don't want to go through the legalities.

Else you can go to a court against them with the judge staring at you for being a "what the hell", and then having your name slandered all over the place like anything before you're relived off your charges for being legally appropriate, but socially not.
