Some ISG bros here were asking for contacts. I shared my number and asked them to call me so I can talk to them and provide reference to the SP, because the SP asks questions like how "my friend" looks etc. I was surprised that couple of them declined saying they cannot share their number. I am surprised, someone can share number with SP for communication, but it is risky to share same number with fellow ISG member? Am I missing something? I am freely sharing my monger phone number with other ISG folks and I have been having good whatsapp private chats, it is being safe so far, am I risking something unknowingly?

The problem is, we don't know who's the person behind the ID. It could be an SP himself, LE. It could be some sorta scammer and so on. You basically can't trust no one when you're into something like this and what the consequences would be. So it's best to avoid. The reasons will of course vary from user to user.

Another issue I see is that, By giving your number and contacting the SP as well as the person with whom the number was shared (Which BTW could be SP himself LOL), you're basically linking your account and number. I don't want to get into the consequences part but I'm sure we're adults enough to understand the potential risks behind all these things for long-run.

That said, Like you mentioned, people are okay to talk to SP. So it's funny anyone with a malicious intent could actually just project any number as SP or WG and you wouldn't know it.
