You should do some days in a prison here in Colombia to understand why people don't get stabbed any minute. You suggested you were going to go walk around the deserted streets of El Centro after midnight with only enough money for a taxi, just to prove it's not dangerous. Do you remember? Everything I've said is based upon that claim. It's not based on walking around conducting your business at noon or 6 pm. It's based upon walking around, with no purpose, in empty streets after midnight. Can you remain focused on that for about 3 minutes.

If you have absolutely no purpose to be in El Centro, particularly after midnight, particularly away from where the people are, you should not be there. There is absolutely nothing to gain from the excursion. The same is true anywhere in the city. If you're just going to a part of the city to prove crime never happens, and if it does, the thieves are basically decent fellows who are always 100% reasonable and polite, head up to Paris, Manrique or Milagro for your midnight stroll.

If you decide to take such a stroll, for no purpose other than to validate your opinion about the thieves in El Centro, you're being foolish. However, if there were laws against foolishness we would all be in jail. You don't need to take 1 million pesos and your phone. 150 k, especially if you include your small bills, should be enough for them to grab and run away.

Because, grab it and run away is what you want them to do in the event someone does rob you.

Armed rebel groups that actively operate there don't present much risk to our constituency but the rampant robbery and petty crime do. When I worked in Colombia my company had to tailor its operations to avoid situations that would involve employees making intercity trips. We also had problems getting vendors and support organizations to visit our facilities during afternoon hours for fear their employees would end up on the wrong side of a traffic jam that could keep them out after dark.

You should always have some money to give. If you have only 20 k, nobody would believe it, they could shoot you or hurt you just to cut the story short. Have a reasonable amount, give it, and that's it.

Have a phone with you, as everyone has a phone, but buy it cheap if you don't want to risk.

Seriously, you don't know what you are talking about. Medellin is not Naples. This is not Gomorra. Don't think you can lecture people who has spent years in Medellin. Jjbee62 knows the place, you don't have gathered his experience yet.

Go to Medellin, enjoy without being paranoid, take basic precautions and you will be fine, but do not think you are smarter than others or you may risk to pay the price. The probability of incident may be not high, but the risk size is huge.

Perhaps you ought to look at all of these posts in a different light. It's not that the board members with lot's of time spent on the ground in Medellin are trying to scare anyone with what they have witnessed / experienced, but more to warn others of the dangers that lurk, and hopefully provide some advice and things to be aware of so that other board members avoid becoming a victim.

I'm reading your reports with interest as I will travel to Medellin for the first time soon. As you have stated in your reports a number of times that you have taken girls back to yours can you please tell me what area you stay in and if you are using a hotel or airbnb. Thanks.

I do stay in Laureles, which I prefer to Poblado, not because La 70, but because it remembers me "El Vedado" in Cuba (very different, but residential). In addition Poblado is on the mountains, meanwhile Laureles is in the valley, therefore Poblado can get "cold" from time to time.

I used AirBnb, but pay attention when you book, be sure you read the notes. Previously I booked a place to discover after I had to pay 100 k for every guest I had. Which I didn't. I just left the place. If you book an hotel, be sure you can bring guests in your room. I heard by some members there is COVID supplement in some cases. I can't confirm it's true, but these people know what you are here for and they try to get all they can from your pocket.

I don't like casas, neither I like the love hotels, so if I have the opportunity I bring the girls at my place. Sometimes I do errands in El Centro, I try one or two girls, and if I like particularly one I invite her to my place a few days later.

I usually go for the best restaurants in the city, doesn't matter if I have to take a taxi. They are cheap, even the best. I take a taxi usually when the ETA is more than 15/20 minutes, otherwise I walk. In Laureles there are many restaurants, and most of them are concentrated in a couple of areas. I have been to Carmen the other day, which is considered one of the best restaurant in the city. I spent less than 40 dollars for a starter, a main course and postres. Other places I recommend are Barbaro Cocina Primitiva, and if you want to try a peculiar, very thin pizza, made with high quality ingredients, there is this restaurant called Ammazza, which is great IMHO. Also worth a check Saludpan. It's a good place for an alternative lunch. Mondongo offer huge portions, but the quality is not great. I have been there once and I will not repeat.

As for centro do not walk around. Taxi to your location and be smart. The security is always outstanding. A few gems are around for decent pricing with an attached facility to do your business.

Cali is fine. Visited in March with zero problems. Visit the two clinicas and you shall be rewarded with a huge selection of chicas with good service.

Prices are extremely reasonable.

An issue with Cali is the lack of English compared to Medellin.

Overall Medellin is better for mongering due to the numerous options.

It is not like that they stay away from downtown and warn others not to come. I think the definition of downtown is far smaller for new members than experienced members so the viewpoint is also somewhat different.

It may not happen to you, but if it happens to you just once, I think you are going to change your opinion very quickly. That may be the difference of opinion between people never experience it and people who have experienced it.

Issues of personal violence risk are in their own category. Most risks in life we can play the odds and not worry to much about outliers. The risk of getting in accident while driving, the risk of moving to a new city for a job, the risk of a marriage lasting, etc. But some risks are defined by the outcome more than the probability. Imagine a rare fatal disease, one in a million, one in ten million. But if you have it the incidence is 100%. Doesn't help for someone to say, "Wow, the disease that is killing you is SO rare. " So like you said, everything is copacetic until everything goes wrong, then what? I take way more risks than I should, been lucky so far. Personally I used to stroll El Centro all hours, pre-Covid. But I wouldn't recommend doing what I did. Jumping off the airport bus and running over to NutiBara Hotel? Sure. Heading the opposite direction at 2 AM into the Venezuelan section of town wearing a Nike track suit and sneaks? Probably not a good idea but that didn't stop me. Hey, I wanted to get laid and that's where my girls lived. Peace out.

Met another girl yesterday. She came to my place, we ordered food. She was here for about 3 hours. A lot of talk with a lot of contact, especially from her side. Legs on mine, etc. She didn't let me kiss her. She asked me to recharge her phone, like 2000 COP before she left, which I didn't. She was nice, but she didn't shave her legs in a while. Student. That's not possible, you guys should stop to express opinions on things you don't know. Unless you are working for an operator and you have special access, or you are the police (and not all the policemen), you can't track a number. Then, just to clarify, is not really triangulation, because they don't need to use the GPS to locate you, they use the cell your phone is connected, and they know, more or less, where you are. They know the area, and that's it, they can't track exactly your position like with the GPS. If someone steal my phone I can't trace it, unless they shut it down. And I can erase the content remotely as soon the phone is connected to the Internet.
