Not everyone is going to agree with you that utilizing Tinder or exploring casa's is better than El Centro. Just because you don't like El Centro doesn't mean it's better or worse than Tinder, Casa's, or Fayboo Chicas. And I am surprised quite frankly that El Centro doesn't appeal to you in that it's the cheapest option available for sex in Medellin, and is a "cheap charlie's" paradise.

But for most guys on this board there are numerous reasons it's a no go for them, and understandably so, but at the end of the day it all depends on how guys like to monger. So telling other members not to waste their time should be prefaced with specific reasons for not going there. Such as it's dangerous being an obvious foreigner there, you have no Spanish speaking skills, the quality of the girls can be very poor, too many weird people walking around, it's filthy and dirty. These in essence are the reasons it's a no go for most members, yet for some these are not an impediment. Some guys want things served to them on a platter, kind of like going to a casa and making a selection. Or calling room service, aka having a Tinder / Fayboo Chica come over. While others like to go on the hunt, lurk, and cruise the streets looking for Chicas.

Talking to a Facebook chick, I countered her with a much lower offer (more in line with what a local would pay). Her response was "Eres un gringo why. Pagas tan. Poco y tu tienes dinero". I laughed so hard at that, first time a chica admitted that to me. If more of us banded together and stopped paying these ridiculous prices we can get Facebook chicas for local pricing but I doubt that happens. They all band together on pricing but we can't do that.

I know a few Medellin girls who went to Mexico. They went to "work" there. They mostly see Mexican men. Apparently, the pay is better. They get moved to different cities. I have been "en el centro" at from 20:30 to 21:40 on Sunday. I don't know if it's because it was Sunday, but all the chicas were gone. Only the few working in front of the bars were still there. Some of them. I can say I have seen just 10% of the girls I have seen Saturday afternoon. I think the best time is between 16 and 19, after most of the chicas leave.

I have seen a monger there, speaking with two girls, maybe around 9 PM? He had a small backpack. One of you guys?

I didn't let anyone near me. I have been really careful to change path when two guys or a group was 30 meters away from me. Police was there, not many policemen, but it was there. And to be honest "el centro" was empty. No girls in Veracruz, no girls in Plaza Botero, I mean just 5. A few zombies around, real zombies, like in The Walking Dead. One was walking dragging his leg, he was like in the tv series.

Well, that's my last night visit there, but I will return between 16 and 19.

Best time is between 4 and 7 as you have surmised. There basically is a shift change, a sort of overlap between the daytime Chicas and nighttime Chicas. Sunday's are the worst days to monger in El Centro, albeit there are some part time Chicas that do come out during the daytime that have normal jobs during the week to make some extra money. As far as avoiding people, well it sounds as though your an obvious gringo and probably smart to do this, especially during the evening, however during prime time, 4-7 PM it will be harder for you to avoid people.

Depending on who took them. Some of it is trafficking. They get the girls to agree to go to Mexico to work, but then only give the girls enough to live on and not what was promised, stranding them there for months.

Some are legitimate pimping situations. Some are taken solo by guys. Some go on their own because they can make more money in Mexico.

Instead I'm doing the exact opposite. I'm not carrying my phone and I'm carrying what I'm going to need for the hours I'm in el centro. Carrying 6 millions is not really smart, isn't it? There is no reason for that. Credit and debit card are accepted everywhere. And if I'm carrying such an amount, which is not going to happen, I take a taxi. It's not even smart doing your errands "en el centro" with your $1000 phone. If you know you can get robbed, you go around with nothing, so that's what they are going to rob, just the cash you have with you. If you don't have an expensive watch, you don't have to worry when your arm is outside the window of car, because no one will try to take it from you. People are not shooting at you because you don't have nothing. It happened, but it's not the rule for sure. It might happen if you are opposing resistance that you get stabbed or shot, and I don't even think it's going to happen all the time. Most the time, if there are people around, they will just walk away. Yours are just fantasies. You should do some days in a prison here in Colombia to understand why people don't get stabbed any minute. If you hand over what you have and you show you don't have nothing else, there is no reason they should hurt you. If it happens, then it was your destiny. They take what you have, as fast as they can and they run away. Please get back to reality.

You're going to have to dig up some old memories. You seem to have forgotten what you posted which started all of this.

You suggested you were going to go walk around the deserted streets of El Centro after midnight with only enough money for a taxi, just to prove it's not dangerous. Do you remember? Everything I've said is based upon that claim. It's not based on walking around conducting your business at noon or 6 pm. It's based upon walking around, with no purpose, in empty streets after midnight. Can you remain focused on that for about 3 minutes.

If you have absolutely no purpose to be in El Centro, particularly after midnight, particularly away from where the people are, you should not be there. There is absolutely nothing to gain from the excursion. The same is true anywhere in the city. If you're just going to a part of the city to prove crime never happens, and if it does, the thieves are basically decent fellows who are always 100% reasonable and polite, head up to Paris, Manrique or Milagro for your midnight stroll.

If you decide to take such a stroll, for no purpose other than to validate your opinion about the thieves in El Centro, you're being foolish. However, if there were laws against foolishness we would all be in jail. You don't need to take 1 million pesos and your phone. 150 k, especially if you include your small bills, should be enough for them to grab and run away.

Because, grab it and run away is what you want them to do in the event someone does rob you.

You know what, you do it your way. I'm absolutely certain the nice guy with the gun will be very understanding.

Could you do us all one favor? Before you take your "after midnight nothing dangerous here stroll", put a piece of paper in your pocket that says "Apparently I was wrong. " That way when they find the body, we'll be able to identify you from the news report.

This is not a competition. LOL. The point I was trying to make is people who give advice are sharing real experience because they have actually been there and often. Just take that into consideration and do whatever one pleases. It is an unique sight and experience.

Cali and the surrounding Valle de Cauca department have severe long standing security problems. Armed rebel groups that actively operate there don't present much risk to our constituency but the rampant robbery and petty crime do. When I worked in Colombia my company had to tailor its operations to avoid situations that would involve employees making intercity trips. We also had problems getting vendors and support organizations to visit our facilities during afternoon hours for fear their employees would end up on the wrong side of a traffic jam that could keep them out after dark.

Cali and Medellin are also different. Last I heard Cali was more dangerous. And I would not be surprised if Cali centro is dangerous. Everyone I know from Cali has been held up at gunpoint at some time, mostly while driving, including just coming in from the airport on a shuttle bus. But, before there is an outcry. I don't know that many people from Cali, so I'm sure someone will have had a great time there, no problems at all, and spent all kinds of time in Centro.

You should always have some money to give. If you have only 20 k, nobody would believe it, they could shoot you or hurt you just to cut the story short. Have a reasonable amount, give it, and that's it.

Have a phone with you, as everyone has a phone, but buy it cheap if you don't want to risk.

I was never robbered by two guys with gun on a motorbike, but in such a case I would be happy to have 100k in my wallet and a cheap phone instead of my Samsung.

Who attempted to rob me in a street of Bogota was a small group of teens with a small knife. They run away after 1 min, but they were not dangerous. It can be worse.

Seriously, you don't know what you are talking about. Medellin is not Naples. This is not Gomorra. Don't think you can lecture people who has spent years in Medellin. Jjbee62 knows the place, you don't have gathered his experience yet.

Go to Medellin, enjoy without being paranoid, take basic precautions and you will be fine, but do not think you are smarter than others or you may risk to pay the price. The probability of incident may be not high, but the risk size is huge.

Perhaps you ought to look at all of these posts in a different light. It's not that the board members with lot's of time spent on the ground in Medellin are trying to scare anyone with what they have witnessed / experienced, but more to warn others of the dangers that lurk, and hopefully provide some advice and things to be aware of so that other board members avoid becoming a victim.
