The same thing can be said about El Centro. I don't limit myself to any one place. It won't bother me if it is gone. I don't look at the cost the same way you do. What you think is cheap is actually expensive to me, and vice versa.

Isn't that how Tinder works? In Centro, you don't have to dig. You can just sit there to wait for the food to be served and eat what you like. LOL.

Now the other portion of Centro is great. Local food, fruits, shopping but no one talks about that.

I believe I have been descriptive on my thoughts of centro. But let me confine it to the veracruz alley / short stretch carrera 53 to the corner. Let me describe the hunt. About me I am cheapy charlie to a degree. I have class to a degree. But I like girly girly girls, fashionable, soft looking, soft tone, safe and uplifting environments. Ratchet is not for me. I cannot linger and be comfortable in that environment. So my thoughts is how could any other person be that's not force to survive in those conditions. Not everyone is going to agree with you that utilizing Tinder or exploring casa's is better than El Centro. Just because you don't like El Centro doesn't mean it's better or worse than Tinder, Casa's, or Fayboo Chicas. And I am surprised quite frankly that El Centro doesn't appeal to you in that it's the cheapest option available for sex in Medellin, and is a "cheap charlie's" paradise.

But for most guys on this board there are numerous reasons it's a no go for them, and understandably so, but at the end of the day it all depends on how guys like to monger. So telling other members not to waste their time should be prefaced with specific reasons for not going there. Such as it's dangerous being an obvious foreigner there, you have no Spanish speaking skills, the quality of the girls can be very poor, too many weird people walking around, it's filthy and dirty. These in essence are the reasons it's a no go for most members, yet for some these are not an impediment. Some guys want things served to them on a platter, kind of like going to a casa and making a selection. Or calling room service, aka having a Tinder / Fayboo Chica come over. While others like to go on the hunt, lurk, and cruise the streets looking for Chicas.

This is not a competition. LOL. The point I was trying to make is people who give advice are sharing real experience because they have actually been there and often. Just take that into consideration and do whatever one pleases. It is an unique sight and experience.

I've never been to Cali, but walked a lot in Medellin centro. It can be a different world one block to the next. I do know that there are places I avoid, even in the daytime, and on the other hand places I have walked at night to get back to the metro. I have my favored routes, I stay alert, and have never had a problem. But I still believe it is a dangerous area especially at night. But at least it is the type of area that can keep you alert.

Walking in Poblado, or on la setenta, or on 33rd may give you a false sense of security. You still need to be alert. I've been sized up on la setenta at least once. Guy decided it wasn't worth it, not that I'm intimidating, but combination of surroundings, I didn't look that rich perhaps, or perhaps I had a look that it would be him or me, and even though he would have the advantage it wasn't worth the chance.

I was not talking about live location.

It doesn't really matter. You location, even if static, can be tracked in 3 ways: 1) via GPS; 2) through the cell your phone is connected; 3) based on your IP address. Ordered by accuracy, from the most accurate to the less one. For example, if I know your IP I can do a traceroute and understand, most likely, in which city you are, and which provider you are using, but I can't guess your exact physical location.

None of this is possible if you give away your number and you communicate with WhatsApp. On WhatsApp, for example, messages are sent through a server, it's not a peer to peer application, it uses the Jabber protocol, so your IP is not known to the client (the other person's phone). On other applications, well it depends. But here everyone is using WhatsApp, so don't be afraid. Just don't click on any links they may send you. That way they can potentially track your IP, but this is not a country off hackers, they are not going to do much with your IP, which is the IP of your local wireless network or the one assigned by Claro or Movistar, depending by the operator you use here.

Full disclosure, I am a Centro rat so no one should consider me an objective source. Real talk, Centro is the low end. Even Colombian web sites like this one disparage it. We talk about it a lot on here but the vast majority of the clients are Colombian laborers who earn very low wages even by Colombia standards. Playing the Centro game is a lengthy and risky treasure hunt. It really is not for everyone, just like Loutron is not for everyone. Albeit for a different reason. If you have experience or grew up in a marginal urban setting you will not feel disoriented in Centro. If you are from a more sheltered background it will be a massive culture shock. Familiarity with street life is in my opinion much more important than the ability to conduct meaningful conversations with people in Centro.

I do stay in Laureles, which I prefer to Poblado, not because La 70, but because it remembers me "El Vedado" in Cuba (very different, but residential). In addition Poblado is on the mountains, meanwhile Laureles is in the valley, therefore Poblado can get "cold" from time to time.

I used AirBnb, but pay attention when you book, be sure you read the notes. Previously I booked a place to discover after I had to pay 100 k for every guest I had. Which I didn't. I just left the place. If you book an hotel, be sure you can bring guests in your room. I heard by some members there is COVID supplement in some cases. I can't confirm it's true, but these people know what you are here for and they try to get all they can from your pocket.

I don't like casas, neither I like the love hotels, so if I have the opportunity I bring the girls at my place. Sometimes I do errands in El Centro, I try one or two girls, and if I like particularly one I invite her to my place a few days later.

I usually go for the best restaurants in the city, doesn't matter if I have to take a taxi. They are cheap, even the best. I take a taxi usually when the ETA is more than 15/20 minutes, otherwise I walk. In Laureles there are many restaurants, and most of them are concentrated in a couple of areas. I have been to Carmen the other day, which is considered one of the best restaurant in the city..

I laughed so hard at that, first time a chica admitted that to me. If more of us banded together and stopped paying these ridiculous prices we can get Facebook chicas for local pricing but I doubt that happens. They all band together on pricing but we can't do that.

It might look like a paradox, but yesterday I was there really late, and no one was there. When the closest person is at 20 meters from you, you don't feel really in danger. On the contrary, during the day, there are so many people around, that you need to stay on alert all the time, especially when you pass by a group of guys or you just cross the path with them. After nine Plaza Botero is more like a desert of zombies.

So, today I have been witness of two episodes en el centro. Before I have seen a group of chicas discussing. One of them was losing blood from one hand. I didn't assist at the event, so I don't know if it was a fight or something else. Police was around, but apparently no one called.

About one hour later between Veracruz Church and Plaza Botero, a man in his fifty with a backpack has been robbed of his phone by two guys. I didn't see any weapons, but the man was on the ground trying to hold his phone, but the two guys took it from him and ran away. I can't say exactly because he was wearing a mask, but considering he had a backpack, my guess is that he was a tourist. Most of the tourists I have seen had a backpack.

So, once again, if you go to El Centro, leave your phone in the hotel, and if you have it, just don't use it. And bring with you just the money you need for a couple of shots.

I have been to Carmen the other day, which is considered one of the best restaurant in the city. I spent less than 40 dollars for a starter, a main course and postres. Other places I recommend are Barbaro Cocina Primitiva, and if you want to try a peculiar, very thin pizza, made with high quality ingredients, there is this restaurant called Ammazza, which is great IMHO. Also worth a check Saludpan. It's a good place for an alternative lunch. Mondongo offer huge portions, but the quality is not great. I have been there once and I will not repeat.

La Causa, El Correo, and Cambria are favorites of mine.
