I communicate with the majority of my Chicas via Whatsapp and when I'm going to meet up with them, I leave my I phone locked up and give them my burner phone number and have theirs as well so if I lose it, no big deal, it's registered with Claro and I can get the SIM card replaced, and if your staying for less than a month the burner phone will work without having to be registered.

I have no sympathy for guys who get their American cell phones stolen.

Thanks for sharing. Hate to say it but some of these news stories don't deserve to be taken at face value. In each case they were quick to tell you that the victim "resisted a robbery" yet both died and no eyewitnesses are named or quoted, though the New Yorker was said to have been in a taxi. The sources are "state media" and "the authorities" and there's definitely a PR advantage to laying fault on the tourist.

That said, when faced with a gun and demand for money, etc. Cooperation is the best strategy, though not foolproof when dealing with squirrelly people that are hopped up on drugs.

Took a red-eye from LAX Tuesday night with a connection in FLL and arrived mid afternoon on Wednesday and got no sleep all night.
