On another note, I am going to get my antigen test at the airport on Monday, since my flight does not leave until later afternoon. Anyone have experience with how long the wait (and I don't mean for the results, I mean having to wait in line to get the test. Is the airport testing site busy? How much extra time should I allow?

I think you said you visit Medellin every month. If that is the case, you can get the self test kits that is suggested by United Airline. It comes to $25 per test. You buy it in US and bring it to Medellin and run the test at your apartment before you leave. I don't have the link but I think you should be able to google it.

Yes, that is so true. I'm still amazed how many girls here in their 20's don't even have a basic bank account. Don't even talk about credit cards, virtually non-existent because I think there is no defined system like credit history or credit score like the States. And those that have a bank account (usually savings, for some reason checking account not as common), won't have much in it. One time a girl showed me she had like 50 mil pesos in her savings. I had to do a bancolombia transfer so she would have enough to help me buy some party favors.

You won't find many with anything other than a savings account, because a checking account is a form of credit. Colombian banks are very stingy when it comes to issuing credit, even secured credit, like a checking account. So the savings account is what their debit cards are tied to.
Credit cards also don't have the fraud protection like I'm the US. If someone uses their card, they're stuck paying for it. Happened to the one girl I know with a credit card.

I am familiar with the "Savings Account" which is in effect a debit card account (as JjBee62 pointed out). The interest earned is de minimus and there is a monthly maintenance fee. The fee is a fixed amount and not a percentage based fee. The only real advantage is that by having a "cuenta de ahorros" people can make transfers to your account. Another advantage is that you can carry your bank card and use it for your purchases and it is safer than carrying cash since you have to enter a PIN number anytime you make a purchase.

Last night I had a girl come over my apt in Niquia around 7:30 pm, then left with her around 9 pm to check her new spot in Pedregal. Barrio streets were quiet, and didn't notice any police presence or checkpoints. I always enjoy staying at the barrios. It keeps me grounded. I got my eye on 2 apts and once I finish the process of opening an investment account here with Alianza (bilingual staff), I'll be dropping about $80 k on brand new 3 bed /2 bath on 28th floor with tremendous view of Bello and beyond. And damn, every complex I checked out had just hot chicks in tight ass leggings and short shorts. Haven't seen a gringo since I got off the plane on Sunday.

I usually only fly on Spirit when traveling to medellin. Never had any issues. If you plan to bring large luggage or more than one, I suggest looking at another airline. Spirit up charges for everything.

I've had nothing but good results with Spirit especially with their Colombia service. I was on a JetBlue flight from Miami to New Orleans that was an absolute nightmare plane was about 20 years old.

Well it's time to go back to paradise. Not looking forward to the toque de queda but it will not affect me that much because I don't go out. Once in a while but that's OK too. I know why they are doing it (curfew) and it's all good with me. If anyone is there during this time, hit me up for some food. I think this is common in Latin America. Some payment devices have this built-in. One need to choose sin cuota or input 1.

Brief notes. Since Monday centro was boring. Slim pickings compared to the Thursday before weekend lockdown. I have already posted about this but I will mention it again. Some but not all shops have numbers for Pico why cedula, I open any document on my phone, like today my drivers licence and I zoom right into whatever number is required out of and I have never ever been asked for anything more. I think when they see an obvious gringo they cannot be bothered like today when they guy wanted to see my receipt leaving jumbo I was just waved by, I get this feeling a lot of the time.

Actually they do have a defined credit history and rating system in Colombia, however you have to be registered thru your Cedula to be part of it, and once registered you will be tracked and a credit score will be generated on you. If you have ever been in a store where someone is purchasing something with a credit card they will always ask, "cuantos quotas", meaning how many payments do you want to make for your purchase. I know that might sound pretty strange, because in the USA you can decide when you get your credit card bill what you want to do, but you will hear this question every time when someone uses a credit card to purchase something in Colombia.

With all due respect your advice is obviously well intended and thoughtful but I have say that as far as Facebook goes, you have to keep in mind that BlackCrystal is completely new to the scene. Its not like three days before I go to Colombia I just search "prepago" and a magic list appears. If a person wants to be having sex with the hottest chicas in Medellin than waiting until the last minute to start finding contacts is not a good strategy unless someone is spoon feeding them to you. It is best not to actually contact the chicas and set up citas until a few days before going down, but it took me about a month to get a list of twenty "hot" chicas together on Facebook that I knew would respond.
