    Damn what a hater

I wasn't wearing the headphones. They were in my pocket and got them when they searched me. I don't mind being called stupid. And I guess I was for having my cell phone and wallet on me, as well for not calling a cab. But I saw these kids walking towards me and they didn't give off any vibe until they went into robber mode. They just got lucky to catch me walking during a break in traffic and took advantage.

As others have said, I only post to give you guys a heads up to keep your head on a swivel because things do seem a little crazier here around here on this trip. My girls are telling me to avoid centro at all costs for example.

But I think if you take cabs anytime you leave well populated areas, you should be fine. Still love this place and will be coming back.

    I agree with you Mojo

You think it would be too much to ask that when someone who is in Medellin and reports back with some damn good information that members need to hear, do you think it would be too much to ask that people refrain from calling them "stupid". We do not want to discourage people from making these reports. If you knew Medellin then you would know that this is not an "iffy" area, it is the most touristy and affluent areas and because of this it has its own police station nearby and is regularly patrolled by the policia. He called it 43 a but is also called Avenida El Poblado, these things rarely happen here in normal times, the last report in this area of an on the street mugging was about 2 years ago and it was cone by 2 up on a motorcycle so the new information here is that these guys were on foot. Not something even experienced members would normally think would happen.

All the snips were taken off of Google Street Maps within a block of where he said he was robbed and while there is no way to tell I suspect most of these people are Colombian and what these people all have in common is that they are all openly flashing their "marketable tech" with our regard to thinking they are "dar papaya". Because reputation and statistics show this to be one of the safest areas of Medellin.
No one needs to hear, shoulda coulda woulda but some of his impute is valuable. I think you are living in Colombia, so I think you know that NO WHERE in Colombia is safe anymore. No city, no barrio, EN NINGÚand LUGAR. Telling the truth about this beautiful country and people will not deter us guys from coming for a variety of reasons, mostly for the most beautiful women in the world but please don't describe any area as safe anymore. That will be giving us a false sense of security. Especially any new guys venturing into Colonia for the first time, when they hear 'safe area' they think ok I'm safe here and let their guard down, a very bad thing to do nowadays.

For the last 10 years I have been staying in Chico Norte in Bogota a 'safe area'. Right behind my apartment is a contingent of 100 or more campistas,200 meters long, against the wall of all the closed up restaurants and businesses and all Venezuelans, all lined up with card board boxes and plastic bags. They have even erected a Venezuelan flag over the site. This site is 100 meters from Parque 93 in Chico Norte, here-to-for a 'safe area" there are 3 policemen stationed across the street from this spot, 24 hours a day and still the robberies continue to occur. I stopped and spoked to the cops a few weeks ago and they advised me NOT to venture out of my apartment in the area at night anymore. Every city has become very dangerous, Bogota, Medellin Bucaramanga, Cartagena TODO! With millions of Venezuelans give permeant status by Duque, and no jobs for them or Colombians for that matter to support themselves things can only get worse. One side note. Don't trust anyone, not the people working at the reception desk of your hotel, or the vigilance in a bank, anyone because if they see you have money or are carrying anything of value they will text the bandits, give them your location and description and they will hit you in the street, which may have happened to Chicago man. I love Colombia but until they can end this surge of crime you MUST stay vigilante. Please stay safe.

Well there used to be a Claro store but they shutdown and now only have a booth. And your correct in that most of the stores that sell accessories do sell a limited amount of cell phones from what I noticed as well, versus the carrier stores that have a larger variety, but don't seem to exist there anymore as I only recall the Claro store.

But who are you trying to convince? Not all large cities of the world are created equally when it comes to crime profiles. Medellin is also in distress at the moment in a way not seen in the years preceding the pandemic. Also obvious North Americans and Euros are targets in a way that they are not in many large cities. So yea, let's all take care, operate within our preferred risk levels without suspect generalizations that could lull us into "feeling safe" or a false sense of security.

Did you forget you were in Colombia and not Hyde Park?

This is the new bread of mongers on the scene: walking around Colombia with Beats by Dre headphones on while checking sports scores on their Apple Watch. Smdh.

No one is promoting headphones here. The point you missed was that this can happen regardless, especially in the present atmosphere. Maybe you missed the series of recent videos where the victims were attacked by crowds of guys. There's really no defense against that, and it happens to plenty of locals without headphones.

P.S. Most folks would consider anyone who plans to go to Colombia right now to drink, seek out hookers, and perhaps partake of party favors too stupid to travel. All perspective I guess, plus they have passports, oh well. Wink.

    Follow up report

Hey folks, lots of questions / PMs since my last detailed reportso I thought I would share them with the group.
    • Spanish - I have had a lot of folks ask me about best phrases. Sure, there are some phrases you could learn in Columbian slang, but just go and download DuoLingo, and give yourself 30 minutes a day of practice. For you guys in Columbia already, use your phone for a translator, but instead of showing it to the girl attempt to read it EVERY DAMN TIME, and yes, you will have horrid pronunciation at first. Yes, I know, it will be annoying, but they will help you, the girls actually think it's cute when a gringo tries to learn Spanish. Never copy and paste, use the translator, and then retype. Watch some movies you already know with Spanish audio... just get used to using it, and saying basic things to people in Spanish... you will be speaking Spanish in 4-5 weeks if you do this. Hit up amazing and buy some kid's workbooks - seriously, once your get over the learning curve with the genders and the tenses, it's not that difficult.
    • What is the best way to (insert thing here) - I had a lot a guys ask me for my best way to XYZ... all of those answers are different honestly, but I can tell you this that is a reoccurring theme from almost all of the question I got in this area. I can't overstress the following advice. "Dress well, take care of yourself, eat healthily and work out if you can... and lastly put in a little fucking effort". Yes, a lot, if not MOST of these girls are just solid working girls but they are still human beings and don't want to fuck an old, unattractive sweaty gross fat guy... I may be in the minority on this board who don't treat the girls only like meat... but I think I get a better experience... Sure, if you are there to just put up a number (like I am in Santa Fe, then yep, it's right down to business). If you are looking to actually enjoy your time, do what you expect out of them, and put in the effort. Outside of this hobby, you will also just look and feel better about your life if you are healthier.
    • BBFS - Most casas don't offer BBFS, and even if they did, I wouldn't go there. A lot of those girls go like 10x a daily. If you want BBFS, I suggest non-pros or young Facebook girls. Never assume, make sure to ask in advance otherwise even if they do it, they will try to upcharge you. Know the risks going into this, and see my last post re: STD checking if you go crazy and make some questionable decisions while on tussi while you are there.
    • My hotel wont XYZ - Tips go a longggggg way when rules exist. A lot of folks have said Marriott charges them, others say they don't... I think for every hotel there is always going to be a stickler or two at the front desk, security, etc.... My trick is I always grab some chocolates from the duty-free in the US and bring them down. When I check in to hotels, I always let people know how grateful I am, how diffcult a job it is being in the service industry since I was there before, and usually give some small tips to say 'thanks in advance for the amazing stay I'm about to have". Sure, it might NOT be necessary, but I will tell you I have not had problems with my hotels, that, and it's just a nice thing to do too. I can already tell you I'm going to get multiple emails about "what an idiot" or "YYZ just wastes money".... guys, we have enough money to have an expendable hobby literally flying around the world to fuck women.... even if it's NOT REQUIRED, it's a nice thing to do for someone who works at the front desk in in a hotel in a third world who probably makes 1/100th of your salary.
    • Can I asked you a question/talk with you on the phone - Sure, send me a PM, and happy to help... if you are not an asshole, I may chat with you on the phone for a few minutes to help with suggestions for your trip, or even help you get a good hotel rate with my sources if I can.

Guys, in general, you have to remember, most people who are working down there, who are not "working girls" are people just like you and me. Don't be an asshole, treat them well, and tips go a LONG way. What "might not be allowed" amazingly becomes "ohh, it's ok if YYZ does it" after a $100 tip for a few weeks.[Deleted by Admin]

The only time I use headphones or take a phone with me in Medellin is on Sundays when they close Poblado Avenue in the morning for people to walk and bike down the street. Its safe then and only then.

I only take just enough money that I need for whatever I am doing in that moment. Only some in the front pockets. Nothing ever in the back pockets, and some in my shoes or socks-spread out and hidden.
