So I took the plunge. Answers here for any newbies.

1. Look for couple friendly and always book double occupancy. Girl followed me later. ID is asked nothing else. If you book single occupancy prepare to be asked why you have a guest to the room. I called hotel before booking to check if "couple friendly".
