When I have done this in the US and the UK, I basically booked a second room on my own personal dime and used that for 'personal' purposes. The issue is that I am in Mumbai / Bangalore for a limited amount of time with full work days, so time is valuable. So, I don't want to put up with any drama.

It was a piece of info / suggestion based on experience not to use hotel rooms for mongering, when paid for by the company. Different countries / companies / sectors have different integrity levels / policies / tolerance levels. Adventurous ones can try their luck, no harm. Yes if the company has to fire you, it can fire for many reasons, but getting fired for this reason is surely not a highlight point on your resume. It could be an extra coffee, few beers, a pack of cigarettes, done on a consistent basis.
