I am having a great time in Brazil, living in a condo by the beach in Florianopolis with a Thai lady. I go back to Rio in a couple of days, and will monitor infections closely, both in Thailand and in Latin America, and will go where there is the least Omicron.

This was new tactics, bringing a thai lady to Brazil. A bit like like bringing feijoada to a Thai restaurant. I have a friend who is travelling in Brazil right now. Three times vaccinated, super fit fire-fighter, always very careful and very worried about catching covid-19. He was the one of my friends who caught the most serious covid the last weeks.

I told him that before he left Thailand. But he was adamant that he did not want to stay there and have to take a covid test to get into bars; it wasn't catching covid that he was worried about since he is vaxxed. Now that he is in Brazil, it seems he does not want to go to bars at all, and just a little worried about catching covid.

The spreading is getting worse quickly and I guess most mongers who are going to Brazil for more than a very short time will catch covid. If catching covid is a big concern they better choose another destination for their holiday or stay at home.

I will head back to Pattaya when Omicron isn't rampant in the bars, and they don't require an ATK test to enter a bar. Until then, I am waiting it out in Brazil.

There are very few good outcomes from catching Covid. I will return to Pattaya when the chances of catching Omicron in a bar are not so high.

Meanwhile, I am asking those in Pattaya to report on the extent of the spread of Omicron there, and whether those ATK tests are still required to go into a bar.

It can't be very fun going on a holiday and just staying isolated all the time. Staying away from bars is no solution. What about restaurants, supermarkets, buses, uber etc.

All of my gringo friends (no exception) who are in Brazil right now caught covid-19 (omicron). Even those who got 3 doses of vaccine. Some with mild symptoms, others asymptomatic (like myself) and a few with medium symptoms (the non-vaccinated ones). Among my Brazilian friends the majority caught covid-19 the last weeks.
