Yes, it brings to mind the very appropriate idiom "You don't bring sand to the beach". The beach reference having extra significance to Brazil.

It's a long way to travel with a girl: Pattaya to Florianopolis. But the OP wanted out of Thailand and he wanted to bring a favorite Thai girl along for the ride. Ha Ha. I could almost conceive of it myself under these trying times, except that I would not have taken the girl halfway around the world. I would have taken her to a beach island in southern Thailand like Ko Lipe and rented a condo there for a month or two.

But it is all good. Whatever makes you happy. Yada Yada Yada. I once flew one of my favorite girls up from Phuket to BKK. On the surface, that sounds crazy too, but I really dug the girl and I did not want to fly down to Phuket to se her so I flew her up and we had a memorable 4 days and 3 nights in BKK. Then in early 2020, I was all set (tickets and hotel reservations in hand) to fly BKK to Yangon, hang out there for a few days, and then fly back to BKK with my favorite Burmese gal. I originally thought of taking her to a Burmese beach, but she expressed a big desire to see BKK and I thought why not? It will be a lot of fun. Then Covid broke and I have still not been back to SE Asia since.

Three times vaccinated, super fit fire-fighter, always very careful and very worried about catching covid-19. He was the one of my friends who caught the most serious covid the last weeks.

I don't go out much here in Florianópolis, just for shopping. Covid is everywhere now.

I told him that before he left Thailand. But he was adamant that he did not want to stay there and have to take a covid test to get into bars; it wasn't catching covid that he was worried about since he is vaxxed. Now that he is in Brazil, it seems he does not want to go to bars at all, and just a little worried about catching covid.

The spreading is getting worse quickly and I guess most mongers who are going to Brazil for more than a very short time will catch covid. If catching covid is a big concern they better choose another destination for their holiday or stay at home.

I will head back to Pattaya when Omicron isn't rampant in the bars, and they don't require an ATK test to enter a bar. Until then, I am waiting it out in Brazil.

I come back when they stop checking for an ATK test if you go to a restaurant, and Omicron isn't everywhere.

There are very few good outcomes from catching Covid. I will return to Pattaya when the chances of catching Omicron in a bar are not so high.

Meanwhile, I am asking those in Pattaya to report on the extent of the spread of Omicron there, and whether those ATK tests are still required to go into a bar.

It can't be very fun going on a holiday and just staying isolated all the time. Staying away from bars is no solution. What about restaurants, supermarkets, buses, uber etc.

All of my gringo friends (no exception) who are in Brazil right now caught covid-19 (omicron). Even those who got 3 doses of vaccine. Some with mild symptoms, others asymptomatic (like myself) and a few with medium symptoms (the non-vaccinated ones). Among my Brazilian friends the majority caught covid-19 the last weeks.

Regarding Bolsonaro. He just hold his New Years speech on TV. Everybody in the buildings went to their windows and made a panelada, beating pots and cursing Bolsonaro. Really impressive how much noise they managed to make. Very fun.
