One of these days you will be asked to show proof of an exit ticket out of Colombia, and as evidenced by the posts on this, it is totally hit or miss whether the airline asks for proof of exit, unless of course you have purchased a round trip ticket with the airline your flying on, hence they are not going to ask.

It's less than 20 dollars. You put in your information and you get the ticket at a scheduled time before the flight to your email. Maybe 48 hours before. The ticket expires after 48 hours I think. If they ask you, you just show them this ticket and say you'll leave when the ticket says. After 48 hours the ticket is doesn't work anymore. But you made it through customs so that's all that matters.

When I fly to Asia, I use Thailand as my base. For me, usually the round trip ticket is about the same price as one way ticket so I always buy round trip for a trip that may last many months. I will then buy round trip ticket departing from BKK to other countries. When I enter BKK again, it is always on the return leg so it is the same as one way. I will make trips like this multiple times during one trip to Asia. I have been asked by airline and by custom about my onward ticket because it is not on the same ticket in their system. I don't keep track how many times but I have been asked.

This is just my experience so please don't generalize it to think I disagree with you or you will be asked to show onward ticket. I personally will buy one way ticket when it makes sense but will be prepared to purchase onward ticket when required.

I was trying to make light of the issue by implying if they don't like the way you look, you have to have a return ticket. Bad joke. I guess there's a market for the fake tickets, and so far I am not their target customer, jaja.

My take on it was that there appears to be a varying degree of enforcement for the "round-trip ticket requirement" based on the country of destination and the airline.

I get a pop-up every time when I book my one-way ticket to Colombia saying that I can be refused entry, and I have ignored it, and so far so good. Of course, that is the same thing the fella said after he jumped from the top of a skyscraper on his way down, the people on the 69th floor overheard him saying the same thing, "So far, so good". Jajajjajajajjaaa.

As several have suggested, one work around would be to get out your smart phone in real time, book a return ticket, and then cancel it within 24 hours, or use the fake ticket service you mentioned, which fortunately I have never had to do, but now I am probably jinxed.

I am not suggesting, nor do I rarely, that one way of doing something is better than another, unless the harm or safety of self and others comes into play.

Interesting, my last two flights into Colombia from LAX I had business class seats on COPA and AVIANCA, and tried to print boarding passes beforehand, and was not able to, and was required to go to the counter, and the first thing they asked for was to see that I had completed the Colombian CheckMig form. I don't know how other airlines flying into Colombia handle this, but seems as though these airlines were trying to avoid delays at the boarding gates, making sure that all of the travelers documents are in order before getting to the boarding gate with their boarding passes stamped "Doc's OK" on them, at least that has been my experience.

As far as the return ticket, or exit ticket being mentioned as a requirement for flying into Colombia, I know COPA has always been very strict about this, but don't remember AVIANCA asking every time I have flown with them.

And I have never heard on this board of anyone arriving in Colombia who didn't have a an exit ticket being asked by immigration about this. I suppose since it is a requirement that the airlines must check for before allowing someone to board, that immigration doesn't even bother checking or confirming.

That's where we're losing each other I haven't been to a check in kiosk in over 10 -15 years, never never ever I always always check in online always the night before! In fact now I think about it besides checking in for my business class tickets Emirates to Bkk I haven't been in a line for check in counter in lots and lots of years! There have been times where I have been asked for onward ticket and there have been times when they haven't asked to see it at all. In fact it's kind of hit and miss and no way of knowing when they will ask for it or not. P.S.: since 2020 I've only been using Wingo to fly to Colombia and back. Usually thru Cancn or CDMX.
