Now I'm definitely not saying you should be obligated to tip on top, my point is far from it, BUT I guarantee you they aren't lying or trying to hustle you when they say they don't get the tip. Most immigrant owned restaurants here in NYC and their bus boys, and waiters / waitresses (generally barely speak english) don't get tips. Immigrants (I. E. Indians and Chinese) keep their employees on a leash here. It's not the same as your local Applebees or Cheesecake factory. Therefore, It's not far fetched to think third world or second world countries, uneducated restaurant owners with a slave mentality and no labor laws enforced, don't pass their workers the tips. But again, I'm not saying you are obligated to go thru with the additional tip

I suspect you are referring to it being the monger or tourist culture of Cartagena and not overall Colombian culture. My experience in Colombian culture is not at all of anyone trying to get over on me.

I think that is true, or at least partially it is. Even in the US there was recently a court case that decided any type of service charge goes to the restaurant, not the server as you may logically think. And in places like Thailand, whatever you put inside of the book is to be shared amongst everyone, but what you put directly into a person's hand is personally for them.

I would randomly ask someone at a restaurant I am not eating at or a local customer or even a hotel receptionist to be sure. I don't think that Colombians are giving big tips like that anyway. They just tend to leave the pocket change if anything. But if you are going to a place where a lot of foreigners and tourists eat then they are probably expecting the tips to come the American way, like a significant percentage of the bill.

50 k pesos is nothing for us, but it is a huge amount for the vast majority of Colombians. Most Colombians do not earn 50 k for an honest day's work. If you give a girl the option, she will take the money. You aren't going to marry her and take her out of the life, so she'll be a prostitute for the rest of her life as long as someone buys it. This is a business and her job is to screw you, literally and figuratively.

Unless you block her, the muchacha will definitely reach out to you to see if you're down to see her again. You decide if you want to, but principles here mean absolutely nothing. Yes its still open but the problem is that now, everyone is pushed to that area. I went there for lunch last Sunday and saw a few new things. (not going back for the rest of the trip).

Everyone is concentrated to Kiosk 4 now. So while eating, the usual constant harassment from vendors, massage ladies and beggars is increased but the new annoyance is the damn little kids coming up to you, and tapping you asking for food and money, the same stupid shit they did outside Delirium.

Everyone is competing for the gringos and makes the experience more uncomfortable, the only ones I see liking all the extra attention are the brothers who feel like superstars constantly waving over chicas to get numbers.

I've been down here the last 5 days. All the nuisance you talk about have always existed at Hollywood Beach. Nothing has changed.

I think this is the closest what you can get as a definition of "cheap prostitute" (puta barata). Could she be that stupid? Yes she could and now I understand why they ended up priestesses of the most ancient profession and it's not always guilt of upbringing or place of birth or other unfavorable conditions.

Anyway, that was end of our relations, even though 50 mil is nothing for me; I don't tolerate dishonesty and monkey business.

Quick report.

Last night I went out just to see what's what. Mainly stayed standing by Hotel las Carretas as all the girls walk by there sooner or later when they walk the triangle.

I got about 10 numbers and they all spoke in dollars didn't want to talk in pesos. Even the Venezuelans didn't want pesos. Eventually 4 of the girls sent me this exact picture of their prices and I just block and delete their number.

Sticking to what's left of my usuals as a few of them went through the jungle and made it to America. 2 are in New York, I see 1 in New Jersey, 2 are pregnant by gringos and some are stuck in Mexico.

After this trip ends I'm taking a break or heading back to Aisa.

They don't mention pimps because you don't need to know about them. When they talk about where the live, they will usually mention roommates. Those roommates are other working girls. The pimp is the one who gets the room for them. If you ever go to the chicas outcalls in Torices or Bosque, they are sharing that place as a brothel. The pimp (male or other female prostitute) is taking a cut of their earnings.

They can hear your accent and tell you are a foreigner. If you are a foreigner in Cartagena, you must have money. This is the most expensive city in the country. Locals have a similar site to this in Spanish. I won't give names, but if you find a girl you like on Mileroticos and search her number on Google (without +57) you will find the place. They review girls there.

By the way, forgot to mention. Prices on beer in DondeFidel went up from 8 mil to 10 (waiters complain that there are no tips and everything is more expensive now) just 2 days ago. And the old man who is always sitting in a chair half sleeping next to the wall in that open area outside is Fidel himself, the owner of the bar.

I quite agree. My usual price ceiling for the plaza del Reloj is 250 mil, but I start from 200 mil. Some agree on 200. But strange things happen. Just yesterday I met 2 Venezolanas on the street in the walled city. They were quite good. I would have taken one of them, but they said they charged 400 mil (minimum for each of them. And they were newcomers, came here just 8 days ago. They don't yet know prices? I said that I didn't have such money (actually I wasn't ready to go that high). Usually chicks bargain and we could agree on 250, but they didn't make any effort.

Saying they just arrived is a common lie that these ladies use to make them seem more fresh. The ladies don't typically start at Torre de Reloj since the pimps tend to control who goes where. They start at a casa where the guests and the girls are controlled. Then, with some experience, they move to Torre. They train these girls in a few English words and how to set prices.

They pretend they don't know prices in the hope that you would actually pay more. These girls are uneducated, but they are not stupid. They charged you 400 because you are obviously foreign. I don't play down there anymore because I look foreign too. I just speak costeo Spanish, so they know I'm here often enough. The only way to get around the gringo tax is to learn Spanish or get a Colombian friend to negotiate for you. Usually these girls, ignoring the best looking ones, charge 100 k in the barrios they are staying in for an incall to locals. Sometimes less.
