Just wanted to share my experience since I have been looking at some reports here that were useful.

First about myself, this is the 3rd time I come to Cartagena, mostly to practice kitesurf at la Boquilla during winter season for 1 month of holidays (when there is a lot of winds so it's a pretty nice spot) and with girls (either dating through Tinder or working girls) as a second "hobby". So I know a little bit of the scene and how it is working out even though I am not an expert. Since I am located a little bit outside the city (la boquilla is approx 15 min taxi from the center) I try to get girls using either websites (skodda, photoprepagos, mileroticos), dating app such as Tinder, or just on the real life directly in the clock tower / bars when I have the occasion to go in the center, a feedback on the different channels:

- real life: I have went once looking for girls on the center, usual spots, I didn't find a lot of pretty girls roaming around the clock towers so was quite disappointed. Then I went to Dolce Vita (which even increased their price for a beer, that must be the most expensive place to get a beer in Colombia) where there was a lot of girls, some were quite good looking, but all had this "I don't give a shit" attitude when I asked for their numbers. First time I get this feeling that the girls almost were not interesting? I feel like they are more interesting into guys that are a little bit less straightforward, probably because they feel like it will be easier to charge overpriced from less experienced guys? I although went to Space Club but the place looked quite depressing and the girls were all fat and not that good looking. In total I think I got 5/6 numbers from the streets and Dolce Vita, and when trying to discuss price I got quoted from 100 dollars to 200 dollars all speaking in dollars with minimal services. And none of them were ready to significantly negotiate the price below 400 k pesos even though they propose very basic services whereas from my previous trip I remember not having a lot of difficulties to negotiate 200/300 pesos for the hours. I believe that they don't have problems finding guys ready to pay the full 100 dollars price so they don't want to bother themselves with a 15 min taxi trip to my apartment.

- prepagos websites: was able to negotiate way better with quotes at around 200+taxis (I think girls working with internet are more willing to move around so it is not so much of a problem that I stay in la Boquilla) but it comes at the price of the usual fake accounts / traps / tricks to get money out of you, typically the very looking girl who charges below market but then demand you to prepay something with PayPal to "book" her. These are usually quite easy to spot and avoid. What is more difficult to prevent is the risk to get a girl that ends up being significantly less attractive than in their photos. I ended up meeting 3 girls, and so that you pretty much get the odds: one very good experience (pretty girl with good attitude), one average (girls that looks a little bit worse than in the photos but still good), and one bad (different girl than the photo, I suspect that there was an "agency" making the communication with whatsapp and the girl was not available so they just sent another one, the girl was not ugly and I was surprised so I did not refuse the meeting which is probably what I should have done).

- dating apps I think there are 3 king of profiles there:

- regular girls for non-paid dating: I met several but that is not the point here.

- working girls who will normally straight up say that they are looking for money and make it quite obvious. I met 2 which were 2 good experience. In the end I feel it to be better than websites since usually they don't use agency and you directly speak with the girl.

- "semi working" girl. They will not disclose that they are looking for money but when you want to meet them they will say that they need money to pay for medications (cause they are sick and need medications to get better so you can meet), or 200 k to pay for child keeping (don't know how much people pay for child keeping in Colombia but definitely not 200 k) or any other excuse to make you pay. Of course I completely avoid these profiles as you don't know at all what you are getting and I even if you pay for whatever they are asking you to meet I suppose if you want any sex they are going to find a way to ask even more. Another "trick" which I didn't really understand that happened to me 3 times is that when setting up a meeting the girl is saying that she is with their cousin and if they could both come together. Out of curiosity I almost said yes just to see what trick they had prepared to try to get money, but in the end I chose the safe way by not going through.

In summary, price seem to be increasing, and it seems to be more difficult to get a girls with decent service and good price, not sure how to explain it.

Just a quick report.

Last night on the way to El Laguito the cops set up a check point why that police station where El Laguito and Boca Grande meets where the road changes to 1 way.

Now, stupid ass me was walking around with $600 while constantly procrastinating on changing it out cause the rate was increasing and I was parting with one of my chicas and her friend till 2 am. I also had about 500 k in pesos.

We took a taxi from Getsemeni to El Laguito, 4 Cops pulled over the taxi and told all of us to get out the car. Patted me down, emptied my pockets and they saw the money, took both girls out the car and searched their bags. While I'm in the back of the taxi by the trunk being searched another cop searched the back of the taxi. Came to me and said "problema". Shows me a bag of white stuff and said coca. Now I don't do that shit and none of my girls do it as well. I already know where this shit is going, my girl starts arguing with the cop, they take my ID and both my chicas. Since they both Venezuelan they threatened to take them to Migration, but I know my girl here legally since she have a Cedula and the other have a Venezuelan ID.

I asked them where they found it cause it wasn't on any of us and they said in the back seat. I already know where it's going.

I pull one cop aside and start negotiating to make it go away. My girl over there arguing crazy loud with the other 3 cops. Then they arrest her and her friend and and said everyone is getting fined and going to jail. I pull my girl aside calm her down, pull the cop aside start negotiating again.

They said $100 per person. They after I paid they had the nerve to say they are letting us go because we are good people. SMH.

Don't be me, let my $300 extortion be your lesson.

Can confirm I'm getting quoted 100 - 150 k from the young chicas on Skokka. Mileroticos is much the same. I don't bother with the clubs or downtown in general anymore unless it's for ice cream.

Finally I decided to check out the famous Chica Linda Night Club. The cab driver loaded 30 mil right away; we agreed on 20. When we passed the Club, which I didn't recognize, he made a strange roundabout on the next block and came back on the opposite side of the road (Diagonal 21 is one way, so, he couldn't come back), pointing to the club. Obviously he knew the place because we were talking about it all the way there. I never understood his move.

So I tell her what happened to me that night next to Hotel Caribe and she says, the taxi drivers work with the cops late at night and when a gringo is in the car with multiple people, they will approach a check point and flash their lights to the cops to let them know there is a gringo in the car and they can make some money together.

Just part of the food chain I guess. Someone is always taking from someone.

Tonight's my last night, I fly out tomorrow so I'm just going to chill, nice dinner then rooftop bar in Getsemani.

I always ask if the tip is included. Maybe it is because I am always out with my Colombian gal, but they have never pulled that stunt about "the tips do not go to me". I can see why it would work though and have many people fall for it.

LOL guys, they more than likely don't get the tip! Now I'm definitely not saying you should be obligated to tip on top, my point is far from it, BUT I guarantee you they aren't lying or trying to hustle you when they say they don't get the tip. Most immigrant owned restaurants here in NYC and their bus boys, and waiters / waitresses (generally barely speak english) don't get tips. Immigrants (I. E. Indians and Chinese) keep their employees on a leash here. It's not the same as your local Applebees or Cheesecake factory. Therefore, It's not far fetched to think third world or second world countries, uneducated restaurant owners with a slave mentality and no labor laws enforced, don't pass their workers the tips. But again, I'm not saying you are obligated to go thru with the additional tip

I suspect you are referring to it being the monger or tourist culture of Cartagena and not overall Colombian culture. My experience in Colombian culture is not at all of anyone trying to get over on me.

Now on this trip multiple times at multiple places I've had the person whose in charge of the table tell me that the tip / service fee / propina that's on the receipt is not for them, but its for the restaurant and any cash tip I provide is for them. Like really?

I think that is true, or at least partially it is. Even in the US there was recently a court case that decided any type of service charge goes to the restaurant, not the server as you may logically think. And in places like Thailand, whatever you put inside of the book is to be shared amongst everyone, but what you put directly into a person's hand is personally for them.

I would randomly ask someone at a restaurant I am not eating at or a local customer or even a hotel receptionist to be sure. I don't think that Colombians are giving big tips like that anyway. They just tend to leave the pocket change if anything. But if you are going to a place where a lot of foreigners and tourists eat then they are probably expecting the tips to come the American way, like a significant percentage of the bill.

A lot of these girls are so dumb when it comes to future prospects, they have no idea the difference between long term money and short term gain.

Chicks in Thailand are not asking for any tips. I merely drop them off the next morning and hand them their $30 and they say see you soon. No analyzing or PhD needed.
