I just left Pattaya, on my first visit and stayed 8 days at the Empress, I was mostly very pleased with the hotel and would stay there again with not a problem. The staff was very helpful. I tipped the housekeeper 40 baht a day and she gave me extra towels and waters and was very responsive to any other request I had. The location is excellent if you like the beach. I also used Nam for the transfer and everything went perfect with one exception. They originally assigned Dream to pick me up and her photo was pleasant. Just prior to my flight I was told that they had substituted Nikky to pick me up. Nikky was efficient, professional, and got to the hotel in good time and with not any fuss. Let's just say, I was not interested in chatting her up AT ALL, which was fine since she had very limited English skills. Not her fault she is not attractive, but it was a bummer and I felt bad because I know she saw the disappointment in my eyes when I met her. I will use Nam's again with no hesitation. BTW, about 10 meters up Soi 12, (away from the beach) is a taxi stand. I used the guy a couple of times as he was recommended by the hotel staff and he also took me to the airport today for the flight back. If you use him tell him the guy that gave him a unopened bottle of Absolute recommended him. He also took me to Camel Toe twice, more about that later.

2 - can anyone recommend a massage place near the Empress?

That is really hard to do, since there are so many and the choices are immense. I will give you two that I used. I went to O Ring on Beach Road (There are two locations side by side). It is a legit place and will not even do HJ. The girl I picked told me that before I got the massage in a quiet voice. She suggested I get a foot massage which I did. Turns out you can "bar fine" the massage girls for $400 baht a day. Of course the expectation is they are going to make some money with you, but the ladies are under NO obligation to say yes to going out at all.

The girl I chose was probably close to 40 if not over, but was well preserved. I paid the $400 B and told her I wanted a 2 hour oil massage and then we would decide what else to do. She gave me a very nice relaxing massage and enjoyed my romantic overtures. Let's just say that she told me she had not been laid in almost a year and I believe it from the reaction. It was a wonderful full evening of pleasure and we went to eat after the sex. I gave her $1500 B, she had never asked for anything, and I felt like it was very fair. I would have liked to see her again, but she went back home for a 2 week stay, I forgot to get her Line ID. The other place I went was just across from the Subway shop, on the corner of 2nd Rd. And Soi 13, which I think is Soi LK, the name is Aree Massage. Same kind of thing, except they will do HJ, but nothing more unless you take them outside. Listen, I get that these are not 22 yr old stunners, but for me there is something about a attractive massage lady and good sex. One more note about "civvies", ie women who have never worked bar. Because of that lack of experience, they don't fuck like a bargirl, they don't have the same work ethic, ie they are more like a normal woman.

One other wrinkle, once they are older, their baby daddy has likely ditched them. Not just because they are older, but often because any sex drive they did have is gone (this is common among Thai women married to Farangs, too).
