Hi, it is best not to follow the Nigerian touts, specifically those in Kabukicho at Shinjuku. They have a long history for drugging lone customers in bars and then robbing them. The US Embassy repeatedly warns about them. They are opportunistic and know how to hide their crimes, they lead people to second-rate titty bars, most that Japanese would not visit. Lucky for you if you are in a group. If you are alone and the bar is empty that is the most dangerous scenario. I have seen with my own two eyes them committing brazen crimes. For example several of them grabbed a ladies' purse and ran off - this was almost within view of a police station. Normally I walk past them but when nobody else was around one of them grabbed my arm so he could sell. A few will try to sell you drugs even though you are ignoring them and walking past them. They've been doing this a very long time.

There are English speaking information shops in Kabukicho you can walk in. After 20 years I only use information shops because they are legit and directories of shops in the area. I go to this place frequently when in Japan. Its easy to access and pretty efficient.
