I did do an image search and found the same results as you did. I asked the guy to provide a VC and he was okay with it. So that made me rethink about it? I will just go ahead with VC and see how it goes.

Being a senior member with plenty of experience, you should have seen the red flags, especially the Independence day reason he gave which makes absolutely 0 sense.

Of course, you did give him the benefit of doubt as you've taken service from him previously but I suppose this a lesson for all of us that all SP's can change colours at anytime.

Just think of this as the price to pay to learn a lesson and move on.

It's also unlikely you can claim a refund on the UPI app if you've paid him many times before which is the likely scenario if you've taken service from him before.

Another precaution that I always take is to always pay SP birds in cash to not only avoid situations like this but to also not leave a digital payment trail.
