The justifications and explanations for what we pay are endless and in some cases very creative. There is always a subjective element. For a random example, for some the right to eat a girl's ass is worth any price requested while for other's it's worth less than nothing because they would not do it if paid. Some guys value facial appearance above all and permission to photograph themselves with the woman. I have to confirm what Gabacho is saying. It may depend a little bit on where you are pulling the girl. FaceBook rates are about 200-300 mil depending on the girl and what she perceives as her normal price point. If you speak Spanish you can improve your chances. But as Gabacho says no one is paying 500-600 mil, at least not anyone who lives here.

It appears that a lot of ISG members do not know the difference between Immigration and Customs or at least they use the word Customs to refer to Immigration. I am going to correct this.

Immigration (Migracion):

These are the people who decide whether or not you can enter the country. These are the agents you have to show your passport to upon arrival and they ask you some basic questions about your travel and then stamp your passport allowing entry for 90 days. They also handle the checkmig forms and other types of visas for people entering on a visa for an extended stay.

Customs (Aduanas):

This is a separate entity from immigration. They are the people who (after you have been permitted to enter the country by immigration) check your luggage and backpack for prohibited items. Their main concern is to look for and confiscate things such as raw meat and produce. You may have accidentally had a bad of lemmons taken away from you at the x-ray machine that you forgot you had in your backpack. Those guys are customs (in Spanish they are called aduanas).

They are two separate entities and customs never stamps your passport. I think the confusion may come from the fact that in the US the two are combined into one agency called Customs and Border Protection (CBP). But in most countries, and Colombia and Mexico are no exception, immigration and customs are two separate government agencies with separate stations set up within the port of entry.

I actually feel much safer in the barrio than I do in Centro. I've never seen a snatch and grab in the barrio can't say the same about centro LOL. Also centro has alot more noise from people cars and busses. The barrio is much quieter except for ocasional dog barking and roosters crowing in the mornings.

Also the climate is noticeably cooler up in santo domingo too. Easily between 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the temperature in Centro. I don't know how many times I'll leave my place and it's chilly so I put on a hoodie and when I get down to Centro I need to take it off. Sometimes at night it can be downright cold to the point where you need an electric space heater or a heavy blanket. Definitely alot cooler than Cali. I've been to Cali twice and both times it felt warmer than what I'm used to in Medellin.

I'd say that generally Cali is about 10 to 12 degrees hotter than Centro in Medellin.

I've been to Bogota and after years in Cali it was cold enough to require a jacket and a thick blanket at night /.

Humidity tends to be lower in Cali * because it's still rather hilly* than say Cartegena or Santo Domingo in the DR.

What I deducted (or is deduced) from your Migracion Colombia (What you incorrectly refer to as customs) story, is that you went to the line that said Ciudadanos instead of extranjeros. I believe you said that in your own post. You then went on to mention that the agent was giving you a hard time after looking through your passport. This has never happened to me in all my trips to Colombia since 2018. So I assumed that she was simply mad at you because you were trying to cut the line by not going to the extranjero side and waiting for an agent. If that assumption was wrong I apologize. Months after that I saw that others also had hard times going thru migracion Colombia at MDE airport and I changed my opinion on the matter. This was reinforced by a video interview DC Rob did with a guy who was detained and deported from MDE airport, although I think he left out information in his interview with DC Rob, I see your point that the Colombian government is currently hostile towards some Americans, particularly those whom it thinks are mongers.

Hopefully things go back to normal after the current administrations change. Petro is too far left and is very unpopular among his own constituents. Fico while a popular mayor is too far right and his presidential aspirations are only that aspirations. History has shown us time and time again that extremist from either side of the spectrum don't last very long.
