Davao is definitely the best place to start as it's the largest city, has the most girls, is the safest and its easy to find ones way around. Stay Downtown near Peoples Park so that it's easy for the girls to find you and there is lots for you to see and do during off times. I'm yet to go but many speak highly of Gensan girls so it's on my radar for next trip.

In my experience, the Philippines is quite safe if you are with a trusted local and if you use your head. First rule is mind your own business. If you see something you shouldn't, leave. Go somewhere else for a while. Stay with your girl. And not one you met online two days ago. Meet in the city, spend some time, then go exploring in the province with her. If you do the above, and use common sense, the worst you should encounter is petty theft.

Mindanao was home to a Muslim insurgency for a long time, but that has been over for quite a while. The NPA insurgency is ongoing in many provincial areas. And not just in Mindanao. Locals know what is going on. Listen to them. My partner and I had planned on going to Lake Holon, but we got word NPA was camped out and the Philippine army was going after them. We stayed away, and there was a big firefight the next day. That being said, in south Luzon, I've had encounters with NPA waayyyy out in the province where my wife is from. It is a real concern, but stay near the smaller cities and you will be okay.

The coast is clear so I bus back to Butuan unannounced only to find that DD's is leaving to go to the province for the weekend. Does she want to come over tonight? Sure. But she has to be on the 9 pm bus. It's already 7 so I reply thanks but I'm not in to quickies. Arrive, pump and run does nothing for me. When exactly am I leaving Butuan? Monday. Why? I had been chatting with, and had a dinner as ground work for, another prospect. This one is totally out of my normal target group. 28, single, no kids, a meaningful degree and impressive work history. Has a very real job in the corporate world. Excellent English and a sensible head on her shoulders. She clearly has some bucks behind her. Just organising dinner was a minefield competing with work commitments and being dog tired after a big day at the office. The second dinner at a nice restaurant goes well. I've got a day to wait for the AirBnB and the flood gates open. Some are flakes but some pan out.

I know a few guys who have ridden around the island several times. Obviously not a mongering trip but they always spoke highly of the areas outside Sabang as well.

Hi G,

Yes I've gone for a ride with a few girls and seen a bit more other than Sabang.

White Beach is a bit sleepy in comparison, but worth a trip and it's really close.

It's more geared to those locals fleeing Manila for an escape. The hotels all seem to be old and dated and the beach is average, and nothing like the islands off Cebu like Bantayan.

The place gets packed during Phils holidays so there looked to be a chance to pick up a Manila tourist, but that can be slightly difficult when you have your own girl hanging off your arm. However, the first time I went there for a look I was solo and it was 11 am and I had guys approaching me asking if I was interested in a local girl.

Puerto Galera proper is worth a look, but not much happens there apart from everyday business for the locals.

I've also had a few side trips with a few girls and taken them out to lunch at places like small secluded beaches along the Western Nautical Highway.

Apart from that, I'm fairly restricted to my time when in Mindoro, so I haven't seen as much as I'd like to.

I'll see what else I can discover during my next visit later this month.

The Sabang GF does 'the business' with me during daylight hours and works in a non-girly bar at night, so I'll see if I'm prepared to forgo some daylight fun to explore the local landscape when I return.

True I've been out in the sticks a few times and yes there are some beauties out there. Problem is for the 2 week warrior these places take time. In retirement these will be on my list for exploration.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting away from the typical monger haunts. Girls were much fresher, better attitudes and simply more fun too. Costs were rediculously low compared to $200 barfines and lady drinks.

Would I do it again / recommend a similar tour to others? For those who are self sufficient and have the time, sure.

As my business restricts me to 3-4 business trips a year it makes it difficult to delve deep into the provinces at length. However, I generally try to venture somewhere else each time on a side trip. It makes it so worthwhile to try alternatives other than the typical monger haunts, bar fines, lady drinks etc.

My next trip is in about three weeks, and although Sabang has your typical bar scene, I'm heading down there again to see my little horizontal gymnast as it's an easy trip from Manila once the business stuff is out of the way.

I've always found that once you get out of the big cities (and that can be anywhere in the world) you get a better experience. It might take a bit more work, but very worthwhile and another contact to put in your book for future visits _ Phil.
