Exactly right! I live in farang land and just before my 3rd Thailand trip I invited my girlfriend to join me. I knew she would decline, but she also insisted that if I go it would be necessary for me to take an HIV test prior to having sex with her. She was adamant that the only reason a single man would go to any part Thailand was for the sex.

Of course, I had lots of sex during that trip and we broke up via video chat while I was still in Thailand.

I disagree. Everyone (as in western women) knows about Phuket, there is no sex work stigma there if you tell your friends and family your are going.

I went to Phuket (Patong) in June and there were countless families. Its not known for sex tourism like BKK or Pattaya, as Phuket is massive.

I am assuming they were Thai. But I have trouble differentiating between Thais, Cambodians, Vietnamese, and Laotians. One looked like he was around 5 years old. The others seemed to be maybe 10 or 11.

Pick Pocket. I felt a tug on my back left pocket-where many people keep their wallet.

And I don't get the part when you said they were on the ground as you mentioned they were standing and surrounding you.

When I was walking to my hotel; they were not on the ground; I did not see them; out of nowhere, they rapidly surrounded me.

When I came back to look at them, they were on the ground playing.

A few weeks ago, I think I almost got pick pocketed by 3 very young boys.

I was pretty drunk, walking on Sukhumvit, from Soi Cowboy to Miami Hotel (Soi 13). It probably was obvious that I was drunk.

All of a sudden, 3 boys surrounded me. I turned halfway around to see one or two behind me. One boy waved a handkerchief behind me around my mid-section (probably to hide the pick). I felt something in my back pocket. That's where I keep my main money (just 1 K bills), but luckily I always keep it buttoned up.

I continued to walk a few steps, and then I realized they probably tried to pick me. I walked back and stared at them. They were on the ground. After they saw me staring at them, they immediately got up and ran away fast.

Luckily they didn't take my wallet and smart phone that were in my front pockets. You can't see it bulge out when I'm walking. Wondering If I would have noticed if they tried. I reacted slowly because I was drunk, and they weren't ladyboys.

Be careful out there, especially if you're drunk.

I'm curious, why carry your wallet when out and about? I never carry mine. There's nothing in I'll need, except cash and maybe an ATM card, which I carry in a money clip / card holder. And a few hundred baht in another pocket. One less thing to worry about, especially when I'm drinking.

I use my wallet as a "money clip / card holder". I carry my ATM and credit card (I have 2 other sets I leave in the hotel), hotel key if it's the credit card size type, a copy of my passport, and all the small bills from 20 to 500 baht. It's easier to carry all that in one wallet, especially when I'm drunk. I carry the major money (1 K bills) in a zipped up pocket somewhere. I carry cash because I don't want to use my credit card at the go-go bars.

Family / friends know that I'm not particularly fond of busy cities and I've been to BK many times (with family as tourist) and never stayed more than 48 hours.

Phuket has diving, a long time passion of mine.
