Genuine Question About Immigration.

I've been to Jakarta three times so far. Once as a 2 day stopover on my way to Bali, and twice exclusively for mongering. Each time, when the immigration officer asked if I was there for business or tourism, I said tourism. Their response was always neutral, but it made me feel a bit awkward.

I admit it doesn't seem like the kind of place where most tourists would spend 10 days, let alone visit 2 or 3 times a year. I've thought about saying I'm visiting places like Yogyakarta or Bali after a few nights in Jakarta, but officers always ask for return flight tickets and hotel bookings. I know it's possible to show refundable bookings to back this up, but is that really necessary? Or am I just overthinking this?

What do you usually say during your visits? Would love to hear your experiences and advice!

I say tourism, even though I'm always there on business. They've never asked me for details like where I'm going. I believe in one instance an immigration officer tried to trip me up by saying something like, "You're here on business, right?" I answered "no" and he waived me onward. It's supposedly fine to enter the country with a tourist visa if you're on a business trip as long as you're not employed in Indonesia. Still I figure you might be opening a can of worms.

Two Travel mamis did not ask for money. Paid everything when leaving. Third Travel mami asked for money and I asked if I can pay after and she said ok. Nothing signed.

So I thought let's see what happens at Classic. Mami wanted paid right away. I asked if I can pay after like Travel was doing and she said ok but I have to sign the receipt.

Something new. I think it is a little faster and easier paying all at once at the end. No staple to remove. No mami asking for the change.

Good tip for next time, did not know that was possible. Perhaps only if they remember you?

Every place seems to be open Christmas Day.

Yes. I have to agree. The girls are generally young but only about average looking. Generally quality of bed service is not going to be great and there is a decent chance you will get someone who is just shitty. Once you get over the novelty of the rock bottom low price and the youth there are much better options out there for only twice the rate 365 ($22) vs 720 ($40) at my favorite spa. But compared to other brothels at this price point in Jakarta it is clean, organized and centrally located.

Classic Terminal 2 (on the 3rd floor) is amazing (from my limited ignorance; I haven't been to many other places).

Prices are fantastic; 365 K (plus 100 K tip) for an hour. BTW, I just found out that threesomes (for 500 K plus tip) is for 1.5 hours. Doesn't make sense. You pay a good deal less, and I was told girls get less (95 K) compared to 100 K, and they have to spend more time in the room. It seems you get the phone ring (indicating your time is up and hurry up and finish) at the 45-50 minute mark for the hour, and about an hour and 15 minutes for the threesome.

200+ girls available!

There doesn't seem to be any rip-offs there. Only cost here is the 5 K entry fee; that is way less than a dollar!

There is no incessant request for ladydrinks (like most countries in SE Asia). I see customers asking the girls if they want to drink; I am assuming it is just normal customer prices.

You don't even have to buy a drink for yourself. Unlike Tijuana where the waiter will kick you out if you don't have a drink in your hand (after you've already drank several beers; fuck TJ!)

There is no demand for tips from the mommies, bathroom attendants, or room cleaners (unlike other countries).

All the workers (staff) seem to be polite and courteous. Not talking about the mommies, but they aren't that bad.

BBBJ is standard, on the menu! Although rimming and CIM is not standard, but some will do it for an extra 100 K tip.

Smaller percentages of moms than other places.

Higher percentages of 18-20 year olds than other places.

Many girls seem to be on the sweet side (not all, of course).

Squid in spicy sauce or sweet and sour sauce (good but does not taste much at all like sweet and sour). Fried squid rings. Fruit juice. All for 60,00 / 15,000 = $4.00. Battered and fried squid rings or 8 piece fried shrimp are not dripping in oil and very crunchy restaurant quality.

Each is 25,000 ($1.67) : Squid in sauce. Fried squid. Fried shrimp 8 pieces. Jackfruit Sundae (crushed ice, avocado pieces, dairy cream, jackfruit). Small problem was the crushed ice had been placed back into freezer making the ice all freeze together. Fruit juice is 10,000.

You can order online but like french fries the calamari is not good cold. Eat ASAP.

Directly across they have sugar cane juice for 10,000 ($0. 67) and I have a feeling they may possibly sell chicken.

Metro Atom Plaza is a small local mall which is not very clean. For example, the guy that was picking up the dishes off the tables was surprise surprise smoking and leaving ashes on the ground. You will see a cockroaches. Near Classic Hotel. Go to the two overpass walk ways that connect the malls. At Metro Pasar Baru Mall (Classic side of the street) take the escalator to the 4th floor. Only one store there. Open the glass door to get in. Walk straight across but slightly to your left there are hanging plastic strips like you see in a cooler or freezer. Walk through. Cross using the over the street walkway. Left side. 3rd eatery.

OR.

Cross the street (like Frogger). Go to the left mall (not the KFC mall). Take elevator on your right to 4th floor. Left side. 4th booth.

FYI Lots of very cheap clothes 20,000 on up. I think the average is 40,000.

Before Mega are 2 small bars across from each other that are 350,000 or 400,000 depending on your negotiation skills or if they need business. Correct. No more automated entry until the renovation is completed.
I had to do it the old fashioned way. Stand in line and make eye contact with the Immigration officer.

In my opinion the whole Terminal 2 needs a face lift. But they don't have the funding.
The Government of Indonesia is running a deficit.
The new Socialist policy announced last month (free lunch) will add to the fiscal woes.

Airport updates:

There is construction / renovation work in progress in Terminal 2 (Air Asia, Scoot etc).
The automated lanes have been partitioned by a construction barrier in Terminal 2.

A "Service Fee" is now added on top of the Visa-on-Arrival charge.
Based on my Passport, the total price is IDR 500,000 + 13,000 = ~513,000.
