When I was in the workplace. When I was in the position to hand out assignment or influence policy, I looked to take care of my friends (those who had helped me or had my back in the past) when I handed out those assignments or wrote policy. This is the problem, when I sat in the big chair everyone around me would mostly look like me.

All true. But do you think forced quotas are the answer? I work in the financial industry in Switzerland. Clearly by far most high paying roles are with white guys in their 40's and 50's. Since years there are unofficial quotas to promote more women. It's not written down, but in all promotion discussions the message is find a woman to promote. At least in my area, the result is that all women got promotions regardless of their performance. They don't have from where to choose, there are just less women starting in the industry.

Equality of opportunity? All for it. But I am not for equality of outcome.
