I just got back from my trip to BlackBeards in the DR. I had a great time; much has stayed the same since I was last there 8 years ago. Some rules have changed for the worst (in my opinion) like paying a $100 deposit to reserve a room. I don't mind paying the $100, however they don't have an easy way to pay the deposit. I wound up having to send a western union. In the year 2025 paying $100 via credit card should not be the complicated. Also they hold the $100 until you check out and pay you back in pesos at an exchange rate which is not favorable. Its not a deal breaker for me, however it is a bad customer service experience the way they have it set up. Also as soon as you arrive they have you sign a form stating that you will wear a blue wrist band the entire time you are on their property; failure to do so will result in a charge (I forget the exact amount). Once again this is a bad customer service experience; also I didn't see any valid reason to make us wear it. Any time I left the property I took it off and put it back on when I returned. The food was still good as were the drinks. The american dollar is stronger now than I remember it being 8 years ago. When I arrived I had the taxi stop at Jennys. I got 62.5 pesos to 1 american dollar. So I had no complaints about the prices. My first night there a chica overcharged me and the mamasan got involved and I got my money back. The mamasan told me 3,000 pesos for ST (short term) and 6,000 pesos for TLN (overnight). I never had any more problems like that after that first incident. When I made my reservation I told them to give me a room away from the Crow's Nest Bar and they gave me a room right next to the Crow's Nest Bar. The blue wrist band is the worst idea that BB has ever done you are correct it serves no purpose other than to annoy customers everyone I have ever talked to who stays at BB hate it. BB wants to verify someone is a customer just ask to see the room key. BB should have figured this out by the amount of resistance they are having making customer wear it.

Yes I agree. The part that puzzles me is they still let in people from outside who are not overnight guests. They don't wear a wrist band. So I just don't see the purpose of it? Also having guest sign and agree to wearing the wrist band or else pay a fine is horrible customer service.
