If you're at the Emporium Club, you should try Happy Day Juanda. It's a simple restaurant, somewhere between fast and good. I've been eating there regularly for a few years and I think it's great. With the Emporium on your right, walk down the street and turn left at the end. It's about a five-minute walk from the Emporium in a relatively safe environment.

So apparently, the food scene kinda sucks in Jakarta. The quality and taste of Mpok Jude is NOT GOOD, with all due respect to Gabacho.

In Bali for $1-3 you can get incredible food and for $4-9 you can eat a 4 stsr meal even at Jamie Olivers. Bali might be the best food destination in the world in 2025 (Even though last year it was even cheaper!

So far I have found no good food here but I just want to stop anyone from going to Mpok Judes as I would not feed that frozen / fake crap to a street dog!

Here is one of my favorite meals there.

This is the Chicken Katsu with a side salad and extra order of fries and an Es Te Manis and Es Jeruk to drink. The salad dressing is especially tasty and fries hot and fresh and the chicken extra crispy. All this was like 80 k.

I never said it was some high-end fancy restaurant, what I said was it is a nice place for a cheap lunch and I stand by that statement.

Furthermore, why are you trying to "stop" people from eating there? Shouldn't you let people try it for themselves and see if they like it?

Well I liked it. I took a girlfriend type girl there to eat several times and she enjoyed it also. I will be going back to eat there in May too. Also Jonisteak over by classic is good too but a little more expensive. And this Chinese place in pasar baru called Bakmi Gang Kelinchi was my absolute favorite restaurant. I ate there many many times. There are also many street food tents along the street where classic is but in thr opposite side. Excellent Ayam Goreng. And the sate ayam sold by those 2 dudes right in front of classic is also very good.

Maybe if you're not finding good food in Jakarta, with all due respect you're just too picky.

I stumbled on a hidden jewl this afternoon, not just the 20 year old cutie I fucked in the grimey back alley hotel but also a nice steak restaurant hidden in plain sight on Mangga Besar. It's a cpl blocks West of the Sparks Life Hotel. Similar to Jonisteak but with more options on thr menu. I even saw pork ribs on the menu but they said it was sold out. Prices were a bit more affordable than Jonisteak. I got the aussie tenderloin and a salad. The ambience was also quite nice. With strong Aircon and big spacious tables and not so packed like Jonisteak. Also not as many mosquitos either.

Here's some pictures of the menu with the prices (prices include tax and service charge by the way) and a picture of the meal I ordered.

I give the place a 4 out of 5 rating. I think the steak portion was a little on the small side compared to Jonisteak but other than that everything else was great. So if you're in the area I do recommend for a cheap lunch.

Gajah Mada Plaza is no longer popular with Jakarta people (I was told this was because of the surrounding road works). It feels rather deserted most times. But precisely for that reason it's a doable Shopping Malll on week-ends and holidays. Popular shopping malls (like Grand Indonesia and Central Park) are hopelessly overcrowded outside working days: don't go there on a week-end!

Dapur Solo is a restaurant where I have eaten twice a week. They have Indonesian curry, grilled fish ("ikan gurame") and satay ("sate").

One of my Emporium girls (Novi) said she often ate there.

Which do you think there are many Dapur Solo Restaurante.

I like to take Tinder dates to the Jajaghu restaurant in North central Jakarta. It's beautiful, the food is great, it's not too cold and you can ask them to put the volume of the music down so that you can actually talk to the girl.

Restaurants within high-end hotels tend to be overpriced. This one turned out reasonable. Seafood pizza + carbonara spaghetti = 423 k IDR. Quantity was ok. The pizza alone or the spaghetti alone would have been more than enough for one single person.

I love Indonesian food in general but I'm timorous about eating at random low-end places. Take Padang Cuisine (masakan padang). I love it but I get sick from it. I remember in the long-gone past first eating Padang Cuisine at the Pasar Raya mall. I got traveller's diarrhea. A week later I tried Padang Cuisine again at some 5-star Padang Cuisine restaurant in town. The 5 stars didn't prevent me from having diarrhea yet again. I put it down to Padang food being eaten by hand and restaurants not throwing away - serving again at a later date - the fingered left-overs.

Food poisoning hardly ever happens to me in Thailand. Alas, I don't like to experiment with Thai food half as much as I'd like to experiment with Indonesian food.

In the old days we would eat lunch buffets at Shangri-La, Meridien, Grand Hyatt (Plaza Indonesia), Mulia. The lunch buffets would be available to non-guests and cost peanuts then. We wondered how the hotels could break even. I haven't checked but I surmise the gargantuan inexpensiveness is now a thing of the past.

I liked East Quarter. It's on the LG level on one of the wings.

As far as traffic goes the first 2 times I went there, I went on a Gojek moto. It got me there pretty fast

Nah. I don't want to ride a moto. I don't like to go between cars. People drive aggressively over there, although I never saw an accident when I was there.

I also like the air-conditioned comfort of a car. It's too damn hot and humid in Jakarta, even in December. I just surf the internet, while I'm stuck in traffic for 40 minutes to go a few miles. Prices for the ride-shared cars are very cheap, compared to Western prices.

My favorite area to eat at. Although I've never tried the Taco Bell there. LOL! The Grand Indonesia Mall is an upscale multi-wing mall, with many many good moderate to pricey (for Indonesia) places to eat at. Very affordable if you are on a Western budget.

The main problem is that the traffic around that mall is horrible (worst than other places). Many cars coming and going to that mall.

Yea, I saw several other places I want to try next time I go there, definitely that Karnivour steakhouse place where the sign says "meet your meat" and also that Monster Curry place that has the big gigantic plates of curry. And just a bunch of other places I saw there as well. Really cool mall, nicer than the Central Pattaya mall and Terminal 21 mall in Pattaya, Thailand in my opinion.

The movie theater up in there is really nice too and there is an arcade place on the same level as the upper food court. I think there are also some hotels connected to the mall too.

As far as traffic goes the first 2 times I went there, I went on a Gojek moto. It got me there pretty fast and I was able to record some really cool video footage of Jakarta with my phone. When I went with my girlfriend (the third time I went) we did take a gojek car together and that did seem to take alot longer to get there versus taking the moto.

So I found this restaurant next to the BSTI inHarmony Clinic that actually did give me my BCG Tuberculosis Vaccine and also the first dose of my Qdenga Dengue Fever Vaccine (I'll get the 2nd dose when I return next year).

Anyways this restaurant was really good. Even better than the last restaurant I reported on. I didn't order bakso here but I did get the Sop Iga Bakar which was absolutely delicious and also the ayam goreng with the friend Tempe and fried tofu.

The ribs were perfectly cooked and you could literally pull the bones out of the meat. Super tender melt in your mouth rib meat perfectly seasoned and sauced with a great flavor.

The fried chicken was good and they had 3 different types Sambal Chile sauce on the plate which were all very spicy.

I definitely recommend this restaurant as well if you want to try some authentic Indonesian food. It is located in Central Jakarta (Jakarta Pusat).

So I went on an hour long gojek ride to south Jakarta this morning to go to a vaccination clinic to try to get the Tuberculosis BCG vaccine. Unfortunately they said I have to get some kind of test called a PPD23 test first before I can get that vaccine and they didn't have the test there so I have to go somewhere else now.

But anyways after the clinic I went walking around to explore and find something to eat. I happened to find this Bakso restaurant called Bakso Podomoro. This is located in S. Jakarta in the Cibubur area.

I ordered the Bako iga bskar (baked rib) and a plate of ayam goreng (fried chicken) with an es the manis (ice tea) and es nipis to drink (ice limeade).

The soup was very flavorful and had meat, green vegetables and two kinds of noodles and bean sprouts in a very tasty broth. The baked beef rib was huge and I believe it's the same cut of meat as the rib bone in a prime rib roast in the US. The meat was soft and tender and perfectly cooked. The meat was literally falling off the bone and it was very flavorful basted with kecap manis and other spices and herbs. It literally was like a big chunk of prim rib on a bone perfectly seasoned and sauced.

The ayam goreng (fried chicken was decent as well).

Very friendly staff too. It felt like I was probably the only bule they've had in there for a while and they seemed to be impressed with my little bit of bahasa I can speak now. The whole meal came to 80 k IDR.

I highly recommend if you happen to be in South Jakarta and want to try some good Bakso soup. The Beef rib is an absolute favorite by the way.
