Posts: 146No attention to what that poor old Neddy writes, every time it is always the same story. He is the best. He knows everything. Only he has the bible in his hand. Think he is the only one to have traveled by matatu or hitchhiking in central africa, but he can only advise you in which brothel of professional working girls you can go. He liked the Ugandan girls who starved to death when they danced at the Kendas Arcade, or that other miserable place called Naiz. If you're a decrepit old man and the girls don't want to go with you can only go to brothels. Lifts in Posta? Ha ha ha poor guy. And he brags about it. For this reason he says that Mombasa is dead. And where he goes? To Madagascar. The kingdom of misery and squalor. Let go of that zombie and enjoy Mombasa with the hundreds of young and available beautiful girls. His are only regrets of a poor old man.

And to defend Neddy / Mwalimu- I think very few of us have his knowledge and experience about Africa, and when you read his messages, just take the good things out of the information he gives to you!!

Posts: 555Living in Mtwapa. Many musungus want to live in Mtwapa European winter, spending six month, you get visa for that easily. So they / we rent furnished apartments from Postal, they are offered in Airbnb. You can get them for 2 k or 1. 5 k shillings per night, or even cheaper. 1. 5 k is around 45 k per month. High season / low season changes prices.
It was mentioned that Mtwapa is too hot. Many people from North Europe spend time in Mtwapa, using just fan to get air moving, so I think it is bearable. Power breaks are real problem, then your fan is not working, and you have sweaty night. Local girls, they don't get sweaty even if no fan, I have noticed. Mosquito nets are problematic with fan, they stop air moving, hot again. You can buy standing extra fan flowing air directly to you, but then you may get muscle cramps and cough. Mosquito nets, usually full of holes anyway, I prefer to sleep without. Some apartments have more mosquitos than others.
Air condition would be nice but rarely found from Mtwapa, and makes rent more expensive.
If you want to rent unfurnished apartments is cheaper, maybe 12 k or 10 k, or even cheaper if you take poor apartment. But then you need to buy furniture, and maybe pay rent whole year. Which is not problem if you want to spend whole year in Kenya.
There was mentioning 90 k for month. You can rent already room from beach from Indiana or Big Tree for month, if you rent for long time.
There are elevators in very few building in Mtwapa, I know just one, maybe there are more. So better rent from first or second floor. Power generator, only biggest hotels have them. And Eagle Nest and Casourina, you can spend time on those two places while hoping the power come back to your house or area where your house is. If some big transmitter blows up, it may take days.
There are girls yes, main reason for many musungus to come to Mombasa. You can find girls or girl friend even if you are ugly, fat, bald, old. Let's not go to that never ending discussion are girls only after your money or do they like you even a little bit. Economic safety are what many are looking for, Casourina girls are different thing.
I always recommend here not to take accommodation from Mtwapa if you have not been in Africa or even in developing country before. In your first trip take room from Bamburi beach: Sheratton, Azure, Skyrock are near Big Tree. Or take room from Big Tree itself, rooms are simple but cheaper. Or from Indiana, Kahama, Cowrie Shell. Then you can explore Mtwapa and find out if you can stand all the inconveniences that you will get there.
So, Mtwapa (Mombasa generally) is not for everybody and not paradise. But many people visiting there are starting to plan how they could spend European winter time / retirement time there. So it has it's charm (girls being major reason?

Toothless, desperate without money, grandpa? I appreciate all the info I'm getting from you and Neddy and Mombie of all corners, but can't we just keep it real and informative.

Posts: 80Neddy you talk to yourself alone, you are boorish and conceited as usual. You think you have understood something while you have not understood anything. I have never spoken of skyscrapers, but you who are the professor of the poors are trying to give a lesson. You just make the stupid figure. I wrote that my apartment is in the Mtwapa Post area, since you have been to Mtwapa you know that there is no scratchings at Posta. Let's talk about the girls. First you write that there are thousands but only in Tinder, then immediately later you write that 13 years ago you found that pussy is the least problem in Africa because women are on every street corner. Perhaps you have confused ideas, too much bad wine? And you continue to talk about bad cement skyscrapers, because only you know Mtwapa, you are Jesus Christ of Mtwapa, no one is better than you. And talk about the elevators, cmon woke up grandpa! No building has an elevator in Posta, go back to your hospice to drink a cup of hot milk, or stop being saccy. Mtwapa is full of girls like any other place in Kenya, but if you're old and toothless and even Kimbo then what you write is true. I understand why you went to Madagascar, there the poverty is so extreme that all the desperate without money find paradise, or some strong new emotion. Please, keep on being in a good mood and sharing your knowledge so we can all save a lot of money and instead of watching a movie with Leslie Nilsen we'll read your adventures.

While I'm in the mood to share my experience. Many apartment blocks in the greater Mombasa area are owned by Somalis. Actually former pirates who invest their share of ransoming ships in real estate. First of all. I hope for you that there's enough cement in the concrete lest this "luxury" high rise is bound to collapse. Further. In Africa there's absolutely NO maintenance being done. It costs money. Therefore rent only a building less than 3 to 5 years old. Expect things to break down. Like Elevators. Most promises are just that. Empty promises. Do you know how much fuel it costs to run a generator. ? So. If they claim they have 24/7 generator power. Yes. To run the lights and fridges and TV sets. Not the elevators. Not the air conditions. I know people who bought apartments in these "luxury high rises" They're usually people who launder money. No one in his right mind should ever contemplate buying.
Mwalimu.
When I'm in good mood I'll continue sharing my knowledge so some of you might actually save a lot of money if they're smart.

Posts: 68890 k in Mtwapa is scandalous. This is not your obvious apartment block that locals rent, it is more the short term rentals night to night or week to week place. Good airbnb are less than 3 k per night.

Where? On Tinder and Badoo there's 1000's. But in Posta Road? Only expired mercenaries hanging out with the drunk sexpats. 90.000 KES apartments. Sure they exist. You can rent in one of the new high rise "luxury" apartments. In the 5th floor you going to be incinerated in case of a fire. 24/7 generator power. Very unlikely. Do you know how much power you need to run elevators and air conditions? Step out and right you latch onto cow shit. That's Mtwapa. The most hilarious are these posh lounges. You step out of them and you're in the Bush. LOL. But there's lots of people in denial. They think they found paradise. Like I did 13 years ago. Since then I find out that pussy is the least of problems in subsaharan Africa. They're everywhere on every street corner. Like coca cola. Obliviously it's a totally different matter if you come here for a couple of months. Try to live here for a couple of years.

Posts: 193Rent an apartment in Posta with all amenities at 90000 ksh per month
I'm curious to know what do you get for 90000 khs ($700 US) a month in Posta? You mentioned silence, meaning a quiet neighborhood with security guards, gated community? How many Bedrooms etc? Room service included also? How many months do you have to sign the lease for?

Posts: 80I miei occhi hanno un problema.
I keep reading that there are places like Mtwapa that were and are shit. And why then some people went to a shit place?
Only for the pussy? And then there is also pussy in the latrines of Calcutta, why not go there too?
They say that they are now finished places, because the caravan has moved elsewhere. Which caravan?
That of the girls or that of the poor old men who can live only on scantily clad?
My eyes must have a problem because I see things very differently.
I've been in Mtwapa for 5 months and ok, it's not like Manhattan, but maybe someone forgets that we're in Africa.
There are hundreds and hundreds of new girls every year, denigrating this place means being bossy and stupid.
Or the reason is that they are now too old and powerless and no longer hold the rhythm.
Rent an apartment in Posta with all amenities at 90000 ksh per month, security cleaning silence.
Better keep your mouth shut or eat a chapati instead of saying stupid things.
Kenya is not for everyone, Madagascar yes. In fact all the desperate without money go to Madagascar where life costs very very little.
It's good for all of us, I assure you.

Along the creek? Have fun. You going to die in there. In a normal house the humidity especially December till March is unliveable without A / see. Unless you have uninterrupted power. And for that you going to pay through the nose. Considering the plenty of power cuts even in Nyali. The was a reason the colonials settled in the white highlands. Nairobi Nakuru Machakos or Nanyuki. Even Thompson Falls as it was called in the old days. There's plenty of white Kenyans living there. But unlikely they will talk to you. They stick to their own. Dying breed. They're also called Kenyan Cowboys. There's still the some of the old British Landowner class living in the white Highlands. 4th generation Kenyan citizens.

Thanks for the info. Yes, along or close to the Creek in Mtwapa the Posta area seems to be the only place where it's quiet and park like with old trees and gardens. Actually, seems to be surprisingly livable as I'm googling it now. The prices are lower vs. Nyali for sure, but somehow the environment is more appealing to me. I really like some of them, like the ones behind La Marina. Hope no illegal Mosques nearby.

Posts: 555Mwtapa and there Postal street, or side street of Postal streets. You see lot of musungus there, renting apartments from these quiet side streets of Postal.

Nyali is most advanced but it is little bit boring also, you should have a car there, or use mototaxis constantly. In Mwtapa there is more life and action, and you can walk.
Mwtapa, power breaks are common. So are in Bamburi I have heard.
If you want more quiet life in beautiful surroundings, then Diani. It is more expensive there.
