While you're right, the flip side is that those who make the most money also spend it the fastest.

Whats been happening in the bars of red street over the last few weeks and a few thoughts.

Well its probably best to start off with a south Korean was shot dead in broad daylight by motorbike riding bag snatchers, heard from 1st hand account that the korean did not resist giving up his bag but got shot dead anyway.

Hear of many reports on a weekly basis of tourists / expats getting their phones, bags, money, belongings snatched by motorbike riding thieves, stay safe out there guys and hide your valuables or don't take them outside at all.

Bars, well there are western oriented bars and korean oriented bars on red street, the western bars are a small amount compared to the korean bars.

Western bars tend to be smaller bars, some of the favourite and well known ones are, lollipop bar, geckos, bar, masquarade bar, champagne bar, local punter beers tend to range from 100 peso to 140 peso normally, lady drinks 300 peso to 350 peso (normally small juice) barfines run 4000 peso to 5,000 peso short time according to management / owners.

Western bars mainly have between 2 and 12 odd bar girls, girls here tend to be more of the plumper, older, plain type (and that's being kind) did not buy any lady drinks on several quick visits to these bars at all due to no girls seen of our type.

Korean bars, bars much bigger, better decor, ambience, many more girls in general working in the korean bars, smaller korean bars 15 to 20 girls, larger show bars 25 to 50 girls, local beers 100 peso to 200 peso, lady drinks 350 peso to 400+ peso, barfines mainly 6,000+ peso short time.

Many of the better looking, slimmer, younger girls in the Korean bars are show girls only, these girls are employed to put on professional dance routines in beautiful costumes and do not barfine with anyone, many girls are drinks only girls, many girls are strictly korean only girls, some of the better lookers are cherry girls (virgins) some girls (very few) in the smaller korean non show bars will drink and barfine with westerners but only the girls the koreans have rejected will accept westerners in truth, it is what it is comes to mind.

In summing up, koreans outnumber westerners by huge amounts, koreans are extremely popular amongst the girls that will actually barfine, stories of westerners outfoxing koreans on their own patch and getting with the cuties in front of the koreans is just that stories IMHO.

The town in generally remains very quiet indeed for western tourist, even the korean numbers have dipped a touch after the news of the koreans murder on the streets hit the asian / world news but still by far the dominant race by a long long way as far as the girls, then very few lookers around in any bars.

Yes, mostly correct. Although up until probably early 50's if you are fit and properly dressed, you can still pull hot civilians from the nightclubs. MegaDance, Hammer, and Aqua being the main ones. I have had a lot of fun at these places but I never plan on pulling a girl, although it does happen. If you stay for a few weeks it can be a fun break, and there are a LOT of stunners, so sometimes it's worth it just to watch the girls. Split a table with some buddies and get a bunch of drinks and invite girls to join. If you have limited time and want to maximize getting laid, stick to the girlie bars.

The second would be more or less nightclubs where there might be lots of local groups of 'non-working' girls in different street or night out to party clothes dancing and drinking together. I think these are more like public bars and although some of these local girls might be available for take out, they would be freelancers not working under that nightclub's rules.

The nightclub type of bars would therefore be the hotspots to party for young folks locals and tourists alike. For older guys like me and my buddy who are both in our 60's, I'm thinking that it's the girly bars that would be the primary spots for us and the nightclub type of bars would be a complete waste of time (and probably too darn loud anyway) for us. Our main objective coming to AC is to monger rather than spend time trying to smooze any young non-working locals.

You are not smoozing anyone. There ain't many local chicks who can go throw away money partying on a random night. You will find as you said that the girls in the nightclubs are hookers too. And they will run you way less money than paying barfines. The drawback is the time. You have to keep later hours for the clubs. But you can give those chicks 2000 pesos for all night versus whatever bar fines are that have to be split between the girl and the bar. So if you are paying 4000 barfine with the girl only getting 2000, you can find a freelancer for 2000 where you do not have to bother paying a share to a bar. I have always been a freelancer guy and have done very little barfining.

That's good, probably higher quality too, but by living in Singapore more likely you're making big money, and can afford to spend it there. Me on the other hand I'm not making any anywhere, just spending it, so I stay away from expensive places as much as possible, for example I'm going to Singapore only if flying some place from there, or going on a cruise that starts there, or maybe meeting some friends. I do travel a lot, but mostly to relatively cheap destinations. I like it in the PH, but I'm also maybe forced by circumstances to hang around here mostly, anyway I'm trying to make the best out of it.

Living somewhere is a totally different equation. You have so many better options than an AC bar girl and sounds you have a good GF situation as well. So enjoy!

I'm going way off topic here but I've been to some war graves / memorials where the youngsters are taking selfies with that ridiculous two finger pose and pouting / smiling. Not one of them stopped to read the the information provided and actually learn something about those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Only interested in a selfie to put on their insta. I had to bite my lip as I found it incredibly distasteful.
