I travel with a large case, which is why I usually take a cab from BKK to SUK. Not worried about the cost, but the traffic around the Asok junction can be a nightmare. I normally stay on SOI 8, but it is far easier with the traffic if you stay on the other side of the main road (Soi 11 area).

I think that it could be easier if your case has wheels on it and the lifts are working. That traffic in that area can be mad. Occasionally you see people walking around toting luggage. Taking the rail definitely saves time.

I go to Makkasan and change to the subway, works for me but would I do it daily? Certainly not. But during rush hour it saves you 1 to 2 hours. And at night I paid once 230 baht from the airport to Soi cowboy. So it depends.

That's exactly how I traveled the rail. One roller carry on piece and a backpack. I've seen guys at the airport with a cart full of luggage. Looked like they were moving to Thailand. I think that could be a lot to manage during rush hour on a rail line and hope elevators are working. Sometimes people are packed in there like sardines.

Well that depends on how much luggage that you have. I don't suggest taking any type of public transportation anywhere with a bunch luggage and if you know anything about Bangkok just imagine what it would be like taking Public Transportation during Rush Hour / Peak Times with a bunch of luggage.

Have you checked the Airport Link, BTS or MRT rail lines in Bangkok before? When I travel around the World, if there is a Rail Line connecting to a city system I usually take it. European cities are quite convenient and efficient at doing this.

The only 350 bhat ST hotel in the vicinity I know is the Atlas Hotel on Soi 7/1. By the way, if anybody knows of any other ST hotels in the Sukhimvit Soi 7 to Soi 19 area (even on the other side of the road), do share by PM. I always like to have options since the Atlas can be full up from time to time. When it is full, I hate to wait or worse trudge to the ST hotels on Soi 4. Enjoy BKK, AR.

Great question. Sorry I didn't specify. The ST room was at a hotel down Sukhumvit about a 7 minutes walk away.

A convenient way to travel to and from BKK Airport is to use the Airport Rail Link. I used it last night and took it all the way to the last station (Phaya Thai) for only 45 Baht. You will get a token to use for your fare. From there I connected to the BTS Sky Train and headed down Sukhumvit.

Depending on where you're going it might be better to get down at Makkasan station (35 bahts). It directly connects to the MRT station Petchaburi, which is only 1 station away from BTS Asok (17 bahts). The same station is called "Sukhumvit" when using the MRT and Asok when using the BTS.

You will get a token to use for your fare. From there I connected to the BTS Sky Train and headed down Sukhumvit. The BTS rates will vary depending on your stop. It should be between 15-60 Baht. You get a card for your fare. Easy way to bypass the traffic congestion in the city and saves time and money. I found that the Airport Rail Link stations have free wifi and are clean. Also a good way to interact with the locals.
