To add to this, you can broadly divide fs shops in Japan into "tourist friendly" and "not tourist friendly". The tourist friendly ones will let you book in English, Chinese, Korean using LINE, Wechat, KKT and so on. You don't need a Japanese phone number. The main drawback is tourist friendly shops charge more than what locals pay. However, some of the better tourist friendly shops offer a good value still. TAE is really cheap for what it offers imo. For example, by being located in a cheaper location (Kira Kira in Yokohama) or catering to extremely specific perversions (ex. breastfeeding shop).

The "light services" shops like oppai pubs charge everyone the same, they simply tend to reject people who don't speak enough Japanese (but you can go with a Japanese speaking friend). With girls' bars, the girls themselves make the call on the spot who they will take.

The 'DH negotiation for fs' guide is the last guide I have. Everything worth knowing for beginners is now written down, the rest is up to you.

It took forever inside that station. I thought I was lost. While waiting in front of the tower a teen ager tried to pick him up for something hehe. So long as you are in a major city like Tokyo, there will be "English subtitles" in many places. As you note, you can use your phone to "live translate" signs and menus.

Some ideas for you that you may already know:

Idea 1: Go to Shibuya Hub and other "pickup bars" and just chat with people you meet for "normal" wholesome fun. Maybe you meet a nice girl or just friends both guys and girls. Girls who want to meet foreigners cluster at places like that. I used to do this at Roppongi bars and it was like I became ten times as attractive compared to the USA. But I always heard Shibuya has better options just never had enough time to explore them.

Idea 2: Girls bars - If out of 100s girls' bar pub girls you pass by, maybe 5-10 are your type. 2 or 3 of those really will be in personality too. Identifying them is an art, but you can usually tell in 20-40 seconds if a girl is even an option. You'll want a girl who can speak some English (ex: girl who did a homestay in US), vibes well with you, and has no GPS. If you don't find such a girl, I would pass. I know it's hard but it goes the other way too - if you find two girls you really like, try both. The point is to have strict standards and patience.

Girls' bars are legit establishments and some exist in Shibuya and Kabukicho. The one I went in Kabukicho was Inoka and is obviously legit because it's full of locals and the prices are clearly posted and consistent. I paid exactly what was agreed. Yes, girls' bars suit exactly what you are asking for. It should be immediately obvious the establishment is legit, at least it was to me. Hooters is the inspiration for girls' bars. Hooters is an "American-themed" girls' bar, the OG girls' bar. The only requirements to be a girls' bar is the alcohol and it is staffed by women. Without alcohol, it is most often a maid cafe. Girls' bars normally have an actual bar separating you and the girl. Even though I never touch the girls, they're allowed to touch you. In special cases, you can take the girl out - I was actually asked out and her bar allows it (scroll way down).

The Shibuya girls' bar girls stand out on the street after dinner time, and not all will take English-only customers. If they say no they are doing you a favor. I also suggest two things that are not your main goal:

Idea 1: See Shibuya Galaxy 1 time even though it's "not your thing" to satisfy curiosity, since it is unique and maybe you find your girl.

Idea 2: Consider DH again if you have an ideal cndidate, even though yes other countries have it cheaper. Like you, much of my fun is just talking with the girls. I never said much in detail, but I went to girl's bar last trip. I wouldn't even recommend it for tourists, it's not something most people would be interested in unless they truly want to talk with jgirls. For me, it was a wholesome experience because I found my girl.

So I think it comes down to if you feel you are having a fun time with this girl and if she is entertaining you, I'd buy her drinks and maybe even extend one time. Extensions always cost more than the intro rates on the signs they hold. They are counting on guys fall in love! Tada, that's just how oppai pubs work too. If you aren't feeling it or it is "just some fun", thank her and say goodbye when the time is up. Don't extend, find another girl. Like oppai pubs, the intro price is cheap by design.
