Are the tensions with Thailand affecting nightlife?

Looking over recent posts I conclude that there is little impact on nightlife in Phnom Penh. Is this a reasonable conclusion? I have never been to Cambodia and this seems like the place to start. I am very familiar and experienced with countless trips to Bangkok and Pattaya.

    Weeknights In Phnom Penh

My opinion based on my experience is that mongering in the hostess bars during the week is better than on the weekends. Main reason: locals / expats might be at work during the week. Bar fines at most bars should be lower also. Weekends see a small jump of maybe $5. So, the same number of girls available but fewer customers. Gives you more choices and, if lucky, a better price point. If you are into clubbing, the opposite is true.

Not sure what you meant by "having proof of sufficient funds"? as I assume you are not planning to retire there. No need to show any proof of money. Only funds I know of is to have the $20 for the visa and some money to get out of airport to your hotel.

Based on your username and Khmer girls opinion (I am telling you what girls have told me) and the fact that there's no P4 P scene on KR, your chances are horrible.

You must have spent more time in the air than on the ground.

Yes, I saw that on the forum. If you book a room for one person, they might charge you a guest fee. That's why I got for a room for two people, which I believe isn't much of a difference.

As for Riverside Lux, I can't recall if I mentioned one or two people; we simply walkin and booked a room, and no one inquired about a guest fee.

Sun & Moon is a newer hotel, and I can say they check IDs and call you before the girl leaves.

Riverside Lux is an older hotel, also check IDs and call you before the girl leaves. But some rooms have balconies, and if you smoke, it's nice to watch the fun happening below. Also a bit less restrictive.

Thanks for your good report on Phnom Penh Riverside bars. I have always found good young, fun, skinny, talent at Factory. Looking forward to check out Eagle in 2 weeks when I am there.
When they inquired about VIP at The Factory, I thought, sure, let me give it a shot. However, I wasn't sure what to expect. I assumed it would just be a private dance. At the same time, paying $80 seemed a bit steep. Once I entered the VIP area, I ended up going fully nude since I figured, why not, given the price. Then she also got completely undressed. I enjoyed plenty of lap dances and BBBJ, which were both excellent during the VIP sessions.

When I inquired about FS, both girls agreed, but I always use a condom, so I didn't ask about BBCIP.

$80 for VIP is quite a bit, but that's fine for me because I enjoy spending time with girls at the club while listening to music and having drinks. The only downside was that there were only two benches, and they weren't very comfortable.

The Factory is a bit of a high-end club, but it's a good one. I say this because these are drinking clubs, and they usually tend to overcharge you. However, this club was decent; at least no one tried to scam me.

Very nice, comprehensive report. Named the bars and hotels, your experiences at the venues, and prices. Can't ask for more in a trip report.

    Cambodia Trip

I traveled to Asia with my friends. We started with 3 days in Cambodia, then 3 days in Thailand, went back to Cambodia for 4 more days, then spent 2 days in the Philippines (which I didn't like), 2 days in Vietnam (also not great), and finally 2 more days back in Cambodia.

It was funny because, within two weeks, I entered Cambodia three separate times.

I paid $35 for a visa each time.

I arrived at the old airport once and the new airport twice. There were no issues at all. Cambodian customs was actually one of the best I've experienced—officials were very friendly and polite.

I stayed at Sun & Moon and Riverside Lux. Both were nice and guest-friendly, and I didn't have to pay any guest fees.

Before going out, I read internationalsexguide and watched a few YouTube videos about nightlife in Phnom Penh. I decided to check out Bar Street, but once I got there, there were so many bars that it was hard to tell which ones were good.

I checked several bars, but most of them were disappointing. That area itself wasn't great. I know there are good places, but finding them isn't easy.

    Here's what I learned:

1- Scam bars – You pay for a drink, and that's it. No atmosphere, no fun.

2- Shady bars – These don't even look like bars. Some of the girls look far too young. You need to be very careful where you enter.

3- Fun bars – These are the places where you actually have a good time and feel your money is well spent.

After losing some money, I went to Street 104 and found a bar called The Factory, which I recognized from YouTube. It looked bigger and different, and I later learned they had recently invested to improve it and new owner.

I went in, ordered a drink, and picked a girl, but communication was hard because most of the girls didn't speak English. I left and checked more bars, but still couldn't find anything better.

So I went back to The Factory. I chose another girl who spoke no English, but she was playful—and that was a good sign. We ended up going to the VIP area, and it turned into a very fun night. VIP for $80 and 10 shots included. You can get BBJ all naked. They don't allow but I asked FS she said, if you tip me some why not. It was a nice night.

The next night, I went back again. This time, I spoke directly to the mamasan and told her exactly what I was looking for—fun, playful girls, good energy, and interaction. That turned out to be the key. I asked her to rotate the girls every couple of drinks so I could see different personalities.

I had an amazing time again and went VIP after building a good connection with both the staff and the girls.

    Notes:

--Bar fine at The Factory was $30.

--You need to buy 5 drinks before taking a girl out.

    --Most girls asked for $60.

    --Drinks were around $5.

Mamasans always ask for drinks everywhere, but this was the only place where I didn't mind, because she took great care of me.

After that, I went to Thailand to pick up my friends and told them we had to go back to Cambodia because it was so much fun.

We returned to Street 104, and this time we accidentally ended up at Eagle Bar, right next to The Factory. I immediately recognized one girl from YouTube.

What can I say—we spent the next three nights there. The girls were extremely friendly, and every night we went out with someone. The vibe was great.

I probably checked 20–25 bars total, and these two bars were far better than all the others. At these places, the girls actually interact with you, play games, joke around, and create real fun. We spent around $40–$50 per night and had fun for 2–3 hours. That was perfect for us.

In other bars, the girls just sit next to you or play something like Connect Four or Billiard. For me, that was a waste of money.

Overall, we had a wonderful time in Cambodia.

Well, that was me in Phnom Penh. Unlike Bangkok, where it seems every corner has a massage shop offering 'extracurricular activities,' Phnom Penh has nothing like that, and it instantly put me in a difficult spot. I was aware of this beforehand, having read numerous posts here (thank you, everyone, for the valuable information! And I was determined to finally break through the Bar Exam!.
    First: Thanks for honest report.

Two: Cambodians are conservative and rarely shower together. Most are unshaved.

Three: Drink what I drink: Schweppes.

    Four: BF should be $15-20.

Five: I'm a little kinky and would've tipped extra for the bloodbath!

Six: They tend to require condoms.

Seven: They look younger than they are. It's a little unsettling but that's the culture.
