I visited friends in Makati Medical Hospital and can attest MM is a world class hospital. If I were sick I would check in to MM. One friend used his Allaniz travel insurance and I believed it paid up to $50,000. MM worked with the insurance payments and his wasn't out of pocket for anything.

Once you are in ER, MM does throw everyone on you, lab work and scans. The hospital room looks like a hotel room with a sleeper bed for your guest.

I did have to place large deposits but this was after the initial care. I have found some difficulties in communications but since a lot of things were effecting me I had a team of different specialists doctors looking after me bit and things, in the usual Pinoy way, eventually get sorted after their fashion and move along. So far, the cost of all this is a around 450 k PHP. If this was America, that might 45 k USD. I did by travelers insurance so I should be covered. In any case, I think I have received competent medical care here and would recommend them.

So, New years eve was a bit of a letdown in that the girl bars were mostly devoid of girls. I poped my head in to a couple (Fyre, Neon) and no girls. My landlady said I left the condo unlocked and AC on which I NEVER do. After spending most of that day in ER they moved me to ICU for a couple of days and then a regular room finally. At one point I had 8 different IV drips into me and many shots and pills. It was helpful that I had my medications (BP lowering) with me. They think that since I was taking HCTZ (a diuretic medication) and drinking a lot of water that also put things out of whack with me.

Now, when I left for the clinic I suspected might put me in the Hospital so I have a little day bag that I packed with things I might need and I had a moment of clarity and took my sleeping mask which was a godsend in the bright lights when trying to sleep. I became real friendly with the nurses (sadly, mostly male) especially when having loose bowel control and diarrhea combined with coughing makes for a mess but fortunately, they had a lot of diapers and they insisted on cleaning up first couple of times before I was mobile enough to at least take over. I was fortunate my condo landlady was able to get my laptop and a few things from my condo and a few luxuries like coke's and brownies and brought them to me. She stayed for awhile chatting and I must admit, I find her attractive (short and slim) and might pursue her for a more serious relationship. She had been married to and older Aussie who died and left her a widow. We will see, probably nothing will come of it but I am able to retire and relocate should I wish. I can give up mongering if I need too as long a I have an active sex life with someone I am compatible with.

That brings us up to today, when I hopefully will be getting out. My Oxygen levels are still a little low and I have some lingering congestion along with a cough but no fever for awhile so my body is just taking it's time recovering. The music was very loud, we were yelling into each other's ear, and I still only got about 20% of what she said. You must buy a bottle of booze for a set price. Different categories of girls (gogo, spotlight, etc) apparently have their own kind of bottle of booze, with its own price. Lowest bottle starts at p8,800. Add to that a tip (negotiable with the girl). The mama then proceeded to talk my ear off (she was screaming into my ear, while I nodded my head YES to everything she said; I had to scream at her to be heard). Beer was p180, didn't get the LD price. Paid the tab and bounced.

Everyone regards Burgos as one block either side of the Filling Station but it goes for miles past there. It's been years since I've been for a look. Has anyone had success recently with a barfine or freelancer from the bars, clubs or restobars past Kalayaan? Lots of Residents and locals go there vs the Foreigner only gogos so scoring a civilian isn't inconceivable.

Speaking of something different. There are 3 restobars on Burgos, all within a block of each other, that are not girlie oriented. They are live band restaurants. Bourbon (mostly rock), Cubana Cafe (mostly rock / pop, next door to Filling Station and same menu), and Cuervo Cantina (Mexican / Spanish food, eclectic mix of music, across the street from Oxford). A fourth place, Las Tapas, is one block over on Polaris St (also Mexican / Spanish, softer love songs with guy playing guitar and girl singing love songs, or sometimes jazz or such). Good places to take a date, whether a girl in the biz, or just any girl for an evening of tunes / food / drink. See map for locations. Each place has a different band nightly.
