Those of you who like the Colombian experience, here are the rules to keep it fun for you:

Come to Colombia on a two way ticket for however long you have free, enjoy your time to the max and then.

Use your return ticket. Don't try to make more of your whoring than it is, they are not your girlfriends or boyfriends, it is a business for them.

And you should keep it a business for you.

Trust me on this and if you need any clarification, ask some other seniors here. At least the ones who are not in a graveyard.

So ends your expert advice for the day.
It would be best not to treat everyone from a country as "disposable" based on interactions with a specific subset of people from that country.

Treat people as humans and in turn they should treat you the same, will there be some to take advantage? Sure, but YMMV.

That holds very true with one caveat: you have only been around hookers. For folks that have been around people they do not have to pay, then this is horrible advice.

I'm just going to add that your mileage may vary. I have been coming here since 2021, and I have made some excellent long-term friends. These are friends who are willing to come and hang out without charging anything or expecting anything. I continue to communicate with them, and they continue to keep me informed on how things are going with other friends and in the area. Some of them, when I'm in town, stop by to visit and have a drink and talk before they head off to "work. " These are human beings, and if you treat them as such, they usually tend to treat you back the same. It is one of the parts of the Colombia culture that I love. Some of the friendliest and nicest people you'll meet anywhere.

This is exactly why I still take the 10 minutes to fill out the CheckMIG form. If I encounter some random person on my trip that hasn't gotten the memo, I just flash the form and go on my way.

    Jetblue, JFK, ChekMIG Nonsense

Guys, I know its like beating a dead horse on this shit. Fill it out vs don't fill it out, etc.

On my last 3 trips I had filled it out and was never asked while bag dropping, boarding at JFK, or entering Colombia, well on my current trip I decided not to fill it out because the new website design sucks ass. Everyone's at the terminal, the gate agent calls group 1 and 2 to board and as they start lining up the woman decides to get on the loudspeaker and broadcast "Anyone boarding must have ChekMiG filled out, you will not board is you do not have it". Then keeps telling people "this is the immigration form, you have to fill it out to get into the country" Now keep in mind this was after I already did bag drop and was not asked for it, and I received no emails about filling it out like they used to send previously. Full flight, everyone scrambling to fill it out on their phone, Colombians are there showing the gate agent their Colombian and trying to explain to her that they don't need to do CheckMIG because they are Colombian but the gate agent don't speak Spanish and they don't speak English. Almost nobody can fill out the form on their phone because too much people is trying to access the site at one so the page won't load and it keeps trying to download something. Absolute chaos nonsense. She finally changed her mind and say just show that you started the form and finish it on the plane.

I started it, never made it past page 1 and just said fuck it. Arrived in CTG, and all they asked was purpose of visit and where I will be staying, then she stamps me through, nothing about CheckMIG.

I wish this miscommunication can be cleared up because clearly there is something missing between Jetblue, JFK, and Colombia.

January attack on Santa Fe club

Many clubs were closed for few weeks after the attack. Quality and number of girls in the clubs and overall santa fe are still pathetic.

    Credit Card processing shenanigans

Yeah, I noticed this change in many of the datafonos since I came back to Colombia in April, wasn't seeing this as recently as February so it seems to be very new. Some still use the older way of giving the option between paying in US dollars or COP pesos, sometimes displaying the country flags. But many of them are using this deceptively designed Decline or Accept screen now. Whoever designed this change in the software knew exactly what the fuck they were doing, to trick people into choosing the more expensive option so that the processor can get paid more. It's the same as what the ATMs do with the accept or decline conversion screens, but even more subtle if you don't know what to expect.

They got me the first few times, but now I am so paranoid about checking the screens and walking the cashiers / waiters through the process to make sure they decline the conversion. I have been trying to teach them and spread the word so that they don't unintentionally screw over other customers, but seems like almost nobody other than some tourists / expats knows about this.

Hopefully we can look forward to some sort of class action lawsuit about this in the future.

Pretty sneaky as there was no notice from the bank to card holders and this was all automatically done.
I had the same thing happen to me with over 20 charges, I always tell cashiers to bill in pesos and watch to make sure that it is done that way. I called my CC company and they pointed their finger at the processing company. I told them that that was their problem and not mine, I pay YOU and the charges are posted by YOU on YOUR CC card. I disputed every one of the charges and demanded a written explanation to each charge individually. Some of these charges had already been paid for as I pay my CC bills weekly. I will take this up the ladder as far as I can just for the sport of it because it is not a lot of money. In the meantime it is cash only for me which sucks but not the end of the world.

Same thing just happened to me.

Ya, you're right. I got confused.

What happened is that a few months ago, I was charged in pesos on my credit card bill, even though those waiters selected US dollar. I paid the credit card bill.

Then on this current statement, the banks did the charge and charge back to get their 7%.

This only happened for the charges in which the waiters selected US dollar conversion. Watch out and be careful, if you don't want to pay the extra 7%.

Basically, look and talk like a normal person and you'll be fine, even if you bring a big box of condoms (to enjoy with your girlfriend, obviously). Remember, sex is legal in Colombia, even for foreigners.

Authorities have to be seen to be keeping the country safe, so they make an example every now and then. But 99.99% of tourists have no issue at the border and even 99.9% of sex tourists get in without a problem.
    JAJAJAA That's way too much.

Normal people are not getting denied.

The ones that are getting denied are flagged before they get on the plane or they are in some database in Colombia such as having reports filed against them.

Colombia can deny someone based on what's on their criminal record, so if guys were convicted of playing with minors, they are on that Angel Watch list and countries can decide if they want them Allot of these people who committed violations while in Colombia and now getting denied entry years later is lucky they were denied entry because Colombia could have allowed them in then arrest them and lock them up in Colombia.

Every time I enter they only ask where I'm staying and a phone number, in all my years they have never asked me any other question that would lead me to say anything about women.
