My question after Rome2Rio crunching: would you rather take a 14 hour bus from Quito to Cali and fly to BOG or take 6 hour bus from Quito to Pasto and fly?

I went from Bogota to Quito by bus in December. First leg was Bogota to Ipailes (stayed in Ipiales 2 days). That bus was alright as it wasn't overcrowded and had a personal TV / video which you could select movies or shows. Crossed the bridge by foot to Tulcan and took another bus Quito.

You shouldn't have any problems as a foreigner. You'll notice a lot of Venezuelans on the bus traveling one direction or another, some girls go to Ecuador to work when they get tired of the Bogota scene. Funny thing is that you can cross the border by car, taxi, bus, motorcycle without showing your passport. Sometimes there is a Immigration officer on the foot bridge requesting to see your passport. That's how some Venezuelans bypass the immigration check point.

If you decide to go by bus, I'd advise buying 2 seats so you can sit alone in peace. Another option is higher end buses that are slightly more but well worth it. Especially in Peru, couldn't recommend ExcluCiva enough. Personal TV, Meal, full reclining seat with curtains, attendant could be buzzed to buy beverages or snacks. Another note, almost all the buses are pee only, no poo.

It's about $80 a month. Lots of fake profiles and scammers. Before getting to Medellin I had many asking for money so that they can do their nails and hair up so that they could look nice when I arrived. 5) Flakes. These girls seemed interested and then disappeared the last minute. My feelings are that they were non pros not ready to pull the trigger. Otherwise they would have contacted me again or asked for more cash.

6) Pros. I knew they were pros because they advertised it on their profile bio.

Overall I would not recommend the site because IMO it's too pricey. These girls know how much cash you have because you have to put it in your profile. And the minimum you can put in there is 100 k yearly. So they figure this guy has cash and charge more. But like I said you can find the 150 to 200 mil girls on there but it just takes time. Oh yeah in the states this shit is ridiculous. You have girls wanting 200 dollars so that you can take them to dinner HAHAHA.

Neither. If you want to get to CTG directly, look at Spirit. They fly out of FLL and you do no need to fly out of BOG. Cheapest flights are on Tuesday and Wednesday. I found some in $350 area.

Look at Interjet out of San Antonio or Dallas to BOG. I found $292 on Interjet from DFW to BOG leaving 2/17 returning 2/24. Same dates out of San Antonio are $284.

Delta is throwing secret weekend sale to both Quito and Bogota. Being a turd I crunched multi destination out AUS-UIO return BOG-AUS for $265 Total.

Now for unwanted sticker shock: One way flights between Quito and Bogota easily $280.

1. I'm overdue for a trip to BOG but couldn't find any information on the sale; would you be willing to share the link?

2. A 14 hour bus ride sounds like a miserable experience, especially in Colombia. And I'm doubtful you would even be able to find a direct route (think transfers and delays in every major city). Obviously you have to work within a budget but the Pasto flight is the better option IF you're on a timeline. Several years ago I travelled by bus from BOG to Banos but had several days to do so; that's the only way I would advise the bus. If that's an option, Otavalo has a market that is worth checking out and Popayan is a beautiful city as well. As for security, I have always felt safe and have never had any issues; just keep your bag off of the floor and within eyesight.

One question which comes up often: "Is this a good time to visit?" There is no bad time to visit, it may not be the best time for your desired activities. It's like going to the beach when it's raining. Maybe you can't work on your tan, but it still beats sitting in the office.

If you follow many girls on Facebook, you have an easy way to see how needy the women are, during any time of the year. Simply look at their posts. Does anyone know if a casa de cambio will issue a check instead of cash? I will need to exchange a somewhat large amount of dollars, and I don't want to be carrying a bag full of cash. If they don't issue checks, do you know the maximum they will exchange?

Please listen to this piece of advice. I was in Lima a few days ago, and I'm now in MDE. My Capital One card worked fine in Lima. In MDE it is not working. I have called them twice, and they say there has been no failed attempts. They tell me to clean the card which I did but it did not help. So I also have cash and 3 other debit cards with me so I am ok money wise here.

So my advice is to not depend on just carrying one debit card. I'm not happy as the Cap One card has no fees while the other cards I'm no using do.

The site wasn't down. I had the same issue in New York for couple days. It was definitely not ISP as I tried it with 3 different ISPs: Optimum at home, T-Mobile and AT&T from 2 cellphones. Checked with another member (from USA but different region) to make sure the site is up and he had connection. Used European proxy and was able to connect. Back to normal since Sunday night.

Same for me. Glad things are working again. My browser and internet provider are different so that doesn't appear to have been the problem.
