Just a small query- if I try to take backup of my data to an external hard disk, is it possible that 'ransomware or whatever it may be' also got transferred to my hard disk?

If this is the case, it may further corrupt other system also if I use my hard-disk to that system.

Pardon me if you think that it is a dumb question but I am not a very tech-savvy person.

There might be ransomeware installed on your computer.

Change your password from some other computer and see he comes to know or not.

If still happens, take the backup of the system and format it.

Do not copy back your data on the same system for a while, see how your system is behaving.

So,

If you use same password, it's high time you change all of them. If you have gmail and all, enable dual authentication.

Go to settings and disable access permissions for any apps unless they are needed and you trust them. For example, you may sign in to pinterest using Google.

So, delete all such access in settings and enable dual authentication. But, do ensure your passwords are different. In case you have to sign up for some stuff make use of temporary email aliases available for free. And you should be good to go.

Recently I got an email who claimed to be from a hacker. It was mentioned there that my email ID has been hacked and also told the password of my email. He claimed that a software has been installed in my PC by him while visiting an adult site and his software cannot be detected by any antivirus. Now he got access to all my data and monitoring all my activities from several days. Even If I will change my password, he will still be notified for the same and can continue to track my activities. He also claimed that he has recorded my videos and photos while watching porn and masturbating. Now he is demanding money through Bit-coin if I wish to delete those photos / videos else he will send them to all my contacts. Just to add here that I use Opera Browser in incognito mode with built-in VPN while browsing adult websites..

I am not a cyber expert but have fairly good knowledge of software. Here are my thoughts.

Did you ever use this password on any other website? I am wondering whether the so called hacker got the password from any other website which has been hacked. If so, I would recommend that you change your email password immediately. Also, change the password of any important portal (e. G. Bank account) where you are using this same password. I would also recommend that your most important logins have different passwords. Different passwords for email1, email 2 etc. Different passwords for bankaccount1, bank account 2 etc. And so on.

The more dissimilar the passwords- the safer you are in case of a leak from one portal.

Don't panic. In case it is indeed a ransomware- we will deal with it appropriately.

This is a just a latest scam going around in the world nowadays. Please delete the email and relax. These scammers keep coming up with new tricks. If you do a google search or youtube search you will see many guys complaining about the scam. I had got a similar email 02 months back and after searching on google I realised it is just another scam. All the best.
